Achilles Heel runs a Monday–Friday 5–7pm happy hour — $5 drafts, $8 wine, $9 cocktails, and $2 oysters — at a candlelit waterfront gastropub from the Marlow & Sons team.

The happy hour runs Monday–Friday, 5–7pm: $5 drafts, $8 glasses of wine, $9 cocktails (the Fernet Old Fashioned is the move), and $2 oysters. It’s a genuine deal at a spot that isn’t otherwise cheap — the cocktails here are some of the most creative in Brooklyn, and the oyster price is hard to beat by the water. Prices can shift, so confirm current pours when you go.

Achilles Heel: A Waterfront Happy Hour in Greenpoint

Achilles Heel is the candlelit corner tavern by the Greenpoint waterfront — from the team behind Diner and Marlow & Sons, with a tin ceiling, a wood stove, jazz, and a weekly-changing kitchen. The Monday–Friday 5–7pm happy hour is the move: $5 drafts, $8 wine, $9 of some of Brooklyn’s most creative cocktails, and $2 oysters.

About Achilles Heel

From Andrew Tarlow’s group (Diner, Marlow & Sons, the Wythe Hotel), Achilles Heel is a dockworker-inspired bar that’s effortlessly cool — “rough but refined,” like a Dutch pub crossed with a restaurant. The kitchen menu changes weekly and runs inventive (currently a Korean program — Hwe, spicy tuna hand rolls, mochi cake — alongside porchetta ribs, pretzels with beer cheese, cheese and charcuterie, and the Sunday Hell Chicken). The cocktails are a real program (Fernet Old Fashioned, Turf, Zelda), and there’s an ambitious daytime coffee setup too.

The Happy Hour in Detail

Monday–Friday, 5–7pm:

  • $5 drafts
  • $8 glasses of wine
  • $9 cocktails — seasonal classics, including the Fernet Old Fashioned
  • $2 oysters

It’s the rare happy hour where the cocktails are genuinely special and the oysters are genuinely cheap. Prices have moved over the years, so treat these as the structure and confirm the current pours.

What to Order

A $9 Fernet Old Fashioned (or the Turf, or the Zelda if it’s on) with $2 oysters and the pretzels with beer cheese. Whatever the rotating kitchen is doing that week is worth a look — right now the spicy tuna hand rolls and porchetta ribs — and Sunday nights mean the Hell Chicken.

The Space & Vibe

Cozy and atmospheric — candles, a tin ceiling, a roaring wood stove in winter, a cool breeze in summer, and jazz on the speakers. It feels like a cottage dropped by the water, intimate and chill, ideal for a date or an unhurried afternoon drink. The crowd is local and in-the-know; plenty of people still don’t realize you can eat here, which is part of the charm.

The Greenpoint Angle

180 West Street at Green Street, tucked close to the Greenpoint waterfront. The G at Greenpoint Avenue is the nearest train; it’s a bit of a walk from the rest of the action, but that’s the point. Pair it with a stroll along the water or a coffee on the way to the ferry.
