Roman cooking on First Avenue
Botte UES is the Upper East Side location of the Botte group, on First Avenue between 83rd and 84th, a couple of blocks from the 86th Street 4/5/6. It opened in late 2021 and brings the group’s Roman-Italian cooking — handmade pastas, pinsa romana, charcuterie and small plates — to the neighborhood. The room has a cool, industrial-basement feel that regulars single out.
It works as both a proper dinner spot and a bar hang, with a full cocktail and Italian wine program. The kitchen covers the Roman canon, from cacio e pepe to carbonara and amatriciana, plus branzino and a Milanese. Weekend brunch runs Friday through Sunday from noon to 4pm.
The Happy Hour
Happy hour is served in the bar area only, Monday through Friday from 4 to 7pm. Drinks include $8 beer, $10 Sauvignon Blanc, $11 well drinks, $12 Negronis, $11 spritzes and $13 martinis; the food list runs $8 to $14 with fried mozzarella, bruschetta, meatballs and a Margherita pizza. It’s a solid deal for the UES, where discounted cocktails are harder to find.
The Room
The space has an industrial, subterranean vibe — dim and moody in a good way — with a full bar and a party room in back for private events. It’s comfortable for both a bar sit and a sit-down dinner. Reservations are easy to come by outside peak weekend hours.
