Queens’ oldest brewery, in Long Island City
Rockaway Brewing Company opened in 2012 as the first brewery in Queens, and its Long Island City taproom is the easiest place to drink its beer at the source. It’s an unfussy, welcoming industrial space a short walk from the Vernon Blvd–Jackson Av 7 train — picnic-table seating, cans to go, rotating food, and a long list of house pours straight from the tanks.
The happy hour runs Monday through Friday until 6pm, with happy-hour pricing on the brewery’s own beer. For fresh, local beer in LIC, it’s one of the better weekday-afternoon deals around.
The Happy Hour
Here’s what to know about Rockaway’s taproom happy hour:
- Mon–Fri until 6pm — a weekday window running from open through the early evening
- House pours — happy-hour pricing on Rockaway’s own fresh beer
- Fresh at the source — a rotating tap list poured steps from where it’s brewed
- Cans to go — grab a four-pack to take home on your way out
Exact prices vary, so confirm at the bar — but the early-evening weekday window on fresh house beer is the constant.
The Beer
Rockaway pours a rotating lineup of its own beer — the flagship Rockaway ESB and IPAs alongside seasonals and one-offs — all brewed in-house. The tap list changes regularly, and cans are available to go. It’s a brewery taproom, so the beer is the point and it’s as fresh as you’ll find it.
The Taproom
An easygoing, industrial LIC space with communal seating, rotating food (and food trucks/pop-ups), and frequent events — trivia, game days, and World Cup viewing among them. It’s family- and dog-friendly and built for hanging out over a few pours.
The Location
The LIC taproom is at 46-01 5th Street in Long Island City, a roughly seven-minute walk from the 7 at Vernon Blvd–Jackson Av (the G is close too). Rockaway also runs an original taproom out in Rockaway Beach; this LIC location is the easy in-city one.
