The Bonnie: An Astoria Gastropub With a Backyard Garden, Two Happy Hours and Killer Brunch

The Bonnie, at 29-12 23rd Avenue, is one of Astoria’s favorite gastropubs — tiled floors, exposed brick, big booths, and a beautiful backyard garden with picnic tables, umbrellas and string-lit trees that’s regularly called one of the best outdoor spaces in Queens. It’s a New American gastropub with seriously good handcrafted cocktails and one of the most-loved brunches in the neighborhood, and it stays busy enough that you’ll want a reservation for a group.

Two happy hours — an afternoon one and a nightly late one — make it easy to catch a deal no matter when you turn up.

The Happy Hour

Two windows, plus weekend brunch:

  • Monday–Thursday, 4–7pm
  • Friday, 12–7pm
  • “$10 After 10,” every night, 10pm to close — $10 espresso martini, spicy margarita, or beer and a shot
  • Weekend bottomless brunch, considered among Astoria’s best

The Drinks

The cocktails are the strength — the dirty pickle martini, a spicy margarita, an espresso martini, and the “10 to One” rum punch — backed by a diverse beer list and wine. That late-night $10 menu leans on the espresso martini and spicy marg for good reason.

The Food

Elevated gastropub fare done well: the Bonnie Burger (a Pat LaFrieda dry-aged smashburger), a fried chicken sandwich, fried fish tacos, fried pickles, coconut shrimp, General Tso’s wings, burrata, steak and cheese fries — plus a brunch that’s a neighborhood institution.

The Room

Cozy brick-and-wood inside, with the big backyard garden out back under string lights — the reason the place fills up on weekends. There are trivia nights, and the team’s tiny sister bar, Charlie’s (Astoria’s littlest pub), sits directly next door for Friday–Saturday nightcaps and private events.
