The Fox Harlem: A Corner Sports Bar With $6 Mozzarella Sticks and $10 Cocktails Until 7pm

The Fox Harlem is the sports bar on the Frederick Douglass Boulevard strip, and its weekday happy hour is the deepest-cut of the three rooms this group runs uptown. Monday through Friday, from open until 7pm: $10 cocktails, $8 well drinks, $7 wine, beer from $5, and a bar-food menu that roughly halves.

“From open” is doing real work in that sentence. The Fox opens at 3pm Monday through Thursday and 2pm on Friday, so you get four hours on a weekday and five on a Friday — not the usual two. It’s a corner room built for watching something, with screens inside and a patio out front that the neighborhood treats as its own.

The Happy Hour

Monday to Friday, from open until 7pm: 3–7pm Monday through Thursday, 2–7pm Friday. Drinks are $10 for the select cocktails — margarita, moscow mule, old fashioned, gimlet, daiquiri, all $16 to $20 on the regular list, which makes them the deepest cut on the menu — $8 for well pours, $7 for any of five wines by the glass, $5 for a Michelob Ultra and $7 for Jack’s Abby, Narragansett, Zero Gravity or the Athletic N/A. One honest catch worth knowing: happy-hour cocktails come on the rocks, and it’s $3 extra to have one served up. Food runs $5 a taco, $6 mozzarella sticks against $12 regular, $8 wings against $14, $10 loaded tater tots or steak skewers, $12 calamari or three Angus sliders. No happy hour on Saturday or Sunday — the weekend play here is brunch instead.

The Room

The Fox sits at 2224 Frederick Douglass Boulevard, a few blocks north of 116th Street on the same restaurant strip as its sister rooms Lido and BIXI. It’s a corner space with a fox mural on the outside wall, big screens angled at both the bar and the tables, and indoor and outdoor seating — closer to a neighborhood bar that happens to show sport than a sports-bar-as-nightclub. Their own line is that they’ll put on football, soccer, cricket, chess or Mongolian archery, and if it isn’t on they’ll find it, which is about the right posture. Nearest train is 116 St on the B and C.
