After Eden: $9 Mini Cocktails at Paradise Hour on Orchard Street
After Eden’s happy hour is called Paradise Hour, and it serves $9 mini cocktails at 162 Orchard St on the Lower East Side. It runs Tuesday and Wednesday from 5pm to close, and Thursday to Sunday from 2pm to 8pm.
The verdict: a good reason to start a weekend afternoon here, as long as you accept that you’re buying minis. The $9 list is four small drinks, not a discount on the full menu, where draft cocktails are $19 and signature cocktails run $20–$25. The weekend start at 2pm is the best part. The catch: on Tuesday and Wednesday the window is only “5pm to close”, and the bar’s own hours are 5pm–12am, so that’s a short night of cheap drinks.
The Happy Hour
- Tuesday and Wednesday: 5pm to close
- Thursday to Sunday: 2–8pm
- Mini Martini, gin or vodka: $9
- Mini Espresso Martini: $9
- Mini After Eden Spritz: $9
- Mini Palomita: $9
For comparison, the full menu has draft cocktails at $19, spritzes and the wine punch at $18, the Pho-tini at $25 and non-alcoholic cocktails at $16.
The Room
After Eden calls itself an all-day café and cocktail lounge. By day it serves Vietnamese coffee and light bites, including a bánh mì on Saturday and Sunday from 12–4pm. After dark the cocktail program takes over, with drinks inspired by Southeast Asian and French-Vietnamese flavors and a draft cocktail system for fast service until 2am. There’s a private room called the Opium Den for larger parties. Bar hours are Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday 5pm–12am and Thursday to Saturday 5pm–2am; it’s closed Monday. The nearest trains are 2 Av (F) and Delancey St-Essex St (F/J/M/Z).
