Oysters: the $1 and $1.50 windows

Due West On now

Draft cocktails and a six-oyster minimum · 189 W 10th St $$$
$1.50 oysters (six minimum), mignonette and house cocktail sauce$1.50 each
Draft cocktails – Green-Witch $11, Paloma $12, Shot & a Shorty $14full menu, discounted
$9 white / $9 red / $6 Bronx Brewery IPA / $6 crispy chicken sliderwine, beer, snacks
Happy hourMon-Fri 5-7pm (Fri 4-6)

Most oyster hours in this city are a loss-leader bolted onto a full-price drinks list. Due West is the one that discounts both. $1.50 oysters with a six-piece minimum, $9 glasses of red or white, $6 Bronx Brewery No Resolution IPA – and draft cocktails pulled off the real menu rather than a dumbed-down happy-hour build. The Green-Witch (Greenhook gin, absinthe, saffron, toasted rosemary) is $11 inside the window, from a list built by a former Locanda Verde cocktail director. The room is polished-tavern rather than raw-bar clinical: navy velvet banquettes, rotating art from ACA Galleries, corner windows onto W 10th. The Verdict: the best complete happy hour in the neighborhood – the oysters are the hook, the draft cocktails are the reason you stay. The Local Move: bar seat at five sharp, six oysters and a Green-Witch, out the door under $30. The Honest Caveat: doors are 5pm Monday to Thursday, so the deal starts the second they unlock, and table service lags behind the bar during the rush.

Ama Raw Bar

Asian-influenced raw bar on Downing St · 39 Downing St $$$
$1 oysters at happy hour – the cheapest shell in the neighborhood$1 each
$10-11 cocktails including the lychee martinidiner-reported
Happy hourDaily confirm the window

New to this list, and it moves the math. Ama runs a $1 oyster happy hour at 39 Downing – fifty cents under Due West, and the lowest published price on any shell in the West Village. It is a small, dark, Asian-influenced raw bar: oysters with three sauces including two that are not the ketchup one, yellowtail jalapeño, coconut-green-curry mussels, and a lychee martini that diners keep pricing at ten dollars. The Honest Caveat, and it is a real one: Ama does not publish its happy hour window anywhere on its own site. Recent diners put it at doors until 7pm, and doors are 5pm Monday to Friday, 4pm on weekends – but we have not been able to confirm that first-hand, so call before you plan an evening around it. That is also why there is no live pill on this card. Worth It if the oyster price is the whole point of your night.

Boucherie West Village On now

La Belle Époque brasserie, five-hour daily window · 99 7th Ave S $$$
‘Green Hour’ – house wine, classic cocktails, beerdaily 2-7pm
French small plates alongside, at the barbar only
Oysters and champagne on the regular menu all daynot part of the deal
Happy hourDaily 2-7pm

The longest reliable window in the neighborhood, and the only one that does not care what day it is. Boucherie’s Green Hour runs every single day, 2 to 7pm – house wine, classic cocktails, beer and a short list of French small plates – inside a room doing full La Belle Époque: absinthe drips, white jackets, brass and marble. Five hours, weekends included, which quietly makes this the safest answer to almost any ‘where should we meet’ in the Village. The Why: consistency is the deal. No calendar math, no day-of-week asterisk. The Honest Caveat, corrected this month: Green Hour is bar only, and the oysters are not part of it – they are available all day at full price alongside champagne, which is a lovely thing and a different budget. Come at 2 on a weekend or expect a wait for the marble.

Dante West Village On now

Martini Hour, wood-fired grill, seaside-white corner room · 551 Hudson St $$$
$10 Martini Hour – Dante’s Martini, Olivette, Upside Down Dirty Gibson, With a Twist3-5pm daily
Wood-fired grill and aperitivo snacks alongsidefull price
Happy hourDaily 3-5pm

Correcting ourselves: the $10 deal at 551 Hudson is martinis, not negronis. Negroni Hour is at Caffe Dante, the 1915 original on MacDougal that took World’s Best Bar in 2019. This is the sister room, and what it runs daily from 3 to 5pm is Martini Hour – $10 for Dante’s Martini (Fords gin, Noilly Prat, toasted fennel, verjus, a pinch of salt), the Olivette, the Upside Down Dirty Gibson, and With a Twist. Ten dollars for a martini built at this level is the single best cocktail-per-dollar trade in the neighborhood. The Local Move: it runs 3 to 5, not 5 to 7 – move your afternoon, not your evening. The Honest Caveat: two blocks apart, two different deals, and half the internet has them confused. If you came for a negroni, walk to MacDougal.

LELABAR On now

Oval bar, 700 wines, solo-friendly · 422 Hudson St $$$
Happy hour wines by the glass$8-$10
Three small plates for $12, per regularsconfirm at the bar
$1.50 market oysters – listed Wednesday and Saturday onlymenu-listed
Happy hourDaily 4-6pm

The Village’s best wine bar for drinking alone on purpose: one oval bar, tin ceilings, custom ironwork, and a list 700 deep where most of it opens by the glass. Happy hour runs 4 to 6pm, seven days – we had this as a vaguer ‘until 6pm’ and their own Instagram is specific, so it is fixed – and the window puts wines that normally run $14-$19 at $8-$10. Regulars also report three small plates for $12. The Why: the pour is honest and the sommeliers treat a question as participation, not an inconvenience. The Honest Caveat: Monday doors are 5pm, so Monday’s window is really an hour; seats are finite and it fills by 6:30. If oysters are the plan, the $1.50 market shells are listed Wednesday and Saturday only – check the chalkboard.

Bobo On now

1930s townhouse, French country, garden year-round · 181 W 10th St $$$
$10 cocktails, $8 wines, $5 beer, $2 oysters – diner-reporteddaily 5-7pm
Happy hour is served in the Den onlydownstairs bar
Happy hourDaily 5-7pm

Happy hour inside an actual 1930s West Village townhouse – the downstairs Den bar, the parlour dining room above it, a jewel-box bar called Coco and a garden that runs year-round. The deal, as reported by regulars: $10 cocktails, $8 wines, $5 beer and $2 oysters, daily 5 to 7pm. The Verdict: the best first-drink room in the Village for anyone trying to impress without having to explain a dive bar. The Honest Caveat, and it will save you a bad start to the night: happy hour is served in the Den only. Walk in, go downstairs, do not let anyone seat you in the parlour and then wonder why the check looks like dinner. Prices here are diner-reported rather than posted, so confirm when you order.

Employees Only

The speakeasy that outlived the trend · 510 Hudson St $$$
No happy hour, and there never will befull price
The move that works like one: walk in at 5pm when doors openfree
Happy hourDaily from 5pm

Honesty first: there is no happy hour here, and there never will be. Employees Only is a destination cocktail bar – psychic in the window, bartenders in chef whites, drinks that shaped a generation of menus – and it charges accordingly. It earns its place on this page as the splurge that anchors a Village night rather than opens one. The Local Move that works like a deal: walk in right at 5pm when the doors open. Full attention from the A-team, no crowd, no wait, no shouting your order twice. The same drink at 10pm costs the same money and gets you half the experience. Go Here Instead if price is the point: Dante is three minutes north and pours a $10 martini until five.

After 7pm: $25 beer buckets Thursday, $10 beer-and-shot dailynightly specials
Happy hourMon-Fri open-7pm

The single cheapest way to drink in the West Village: half off the entire bar – everything, not a sad subsection – from open until 7pm, Monday through Friday. In a neighborhood where a cocktail crossed $18 years ago, that lands most drinks between two and four dollars. Doors matter here, so here they are: 4pm Monday to Wednesday, 3pm Thursday, 2pm Friday. Get in earlier on a Friday and the deal is five hours long. The Verdict: unbeatable on price, genuinely, and it has been since 1991. The Honest Caveat: it is a basement, it is loud, and by 8pm it is a shot-ski situation. The Local Move: weekday afternoons before the post-work wave are shockingly civilised for what this room becomes later.

Art Bar On now

Velvet-couch lounge-dive, working fireplace in back · 52 8th Ave $$$
$5 draft beer, $5 well drinks, $5 house wine – and $5 sparklingdaily 4-7pm
Kitchen runs late; open daily 4pm-4amlate night
Happy hourDaily 4-7pm

Half dive, half velvet-couch lounge, all Village – and the deal is simpler than we used to describe it. Per Art Bar’s own menu: five dollars, daily 4 to 7pm, on draft beer, well drinks, house wine and the house sparkling, which feels like somebody forgot to close a loophole. Three hours, seven days, in a neighborhood where the average cocktail passed $18 a long time ago. The front room is booths and noise; the back is overstuffed couches around a working fireplace, hung with rotating work from local artists. The Verdict: the best rainy-afternoon happy hour in the West Village. The Local Move: order the sparkling and take it to the fireplace. The Honest Caveat: dim by design, and it is a hang, not a scene.

Bandits | Burger & Dive On now

Monday ‘happy meal’ – burger, crinkle fries and a martiniaround $25
Happy hourMon-Fri 4-6pm

Two corrections in one card. It is now Bandits | Burger & Dive – the Garret Group turned the diner concept into a burger room – and the happy hour is Monday to Friday, 4 to 6pm, not daily. We had it as seven days; their own Instagram says five. What survives untouched is the reason to go: Martini Monday, $10 martinis famously poured as two glasses, running all night, with a burger-fries-and-a-martini combo around $25. The room is a green-velvet, checkered-floor, disco-ball fever dream and the dry-aged Tavern Burger is the real draw. The Verdict: the most fun per dollar on this list, on a Monday. The Honest Caveat: a stale ‘closed’ listing is still floating around one review site – the bar is open and pouring.

Happy hourMon-Fri 4-7pm

Four hundred whiskeys on the wall and a burger that turns up on best-of lists, plus a proper Monday-to-Friday window, 4 to 7pm. The Spaniard is what a Village corner pub looks like with ambition: dark wood, real cooking, a room that handles the third date and the sixth pint with equal grace. The Verdict: the strongest food-plus-drinks happy hour in the neighborhood – the only one on this page where the kitchen is the reason you stay past the window. The Local Move: land a window seat before 5:30; the W 4th corner is prime people-watching and the first wave takes it fast. The Honest Caveat: the specific happy-hour pricing is not posted online – ask for the list when you sit down.

Hudson Hound On now

Irish gastropub with a stock-ticker gimmick · 575 Hudson St $$$
$7.22 on all draft beer, $10.31 featured cocktailsTue-Fri 4-6pm
Happy hourTue-Fri 4-6pm

The gimmick earns its keep: happy hour prices set like stock quotes – $7.22 on all draft beer, $10.31 on featured cocktails – Tuesday through Friday, 4 to 6pm, at the coziest Irish gastropub in the Village. Sister room to FiDi’s bank-vault Trinity Place, same wink, better fireplace. The Why: ‘all draft’ means the good stouts count, not just whatever macro lager is nearest the tap handle – which is not true of most discounted beer lists in this neighborhood. The Honest Caveat: there is no Monday window, and the room is small enough that by 5:15 you are negotiating for elbow space with regulars who got there first.

Blind Tiger

The city’s defining craft-beer bar since 1995 · 281 Bleecker St $$$
28 rotating taps, roughly $6.50-$11no fixed window
Cask-conditioned ale around $7the actual deal
Happy hourDaily no fixed window

No happy hour, and it does not need one. Blind Tiger has been the city’s defining craft-beer bar since 1995: 28 rotating taps running roughly $6.50 to $11, cask-conditioned ale around $7, and a list that turns over faster than you can develop a favourite. The Verdict: for beer people this is the deal – a hand-pulled cask pint at seven dollars beats most ‘discounted’ macro drafts in Manhattan, at any hour, on any day. The Local Move: weekday afternoons get you the wood-panelled corner window seat and first pull on a new keg. The Honest Caveat: weekend nights are a friendly crush and the bar is three deep – this is a Tuesday bar wearing a Saturday reputation.

The second-oldest continuously running tavern in the city and the one with the best ghosts: Dylan Thomas drank his last here, and the Hudson Street sidewalk tables have hosted seventy years of writers pretending to work. It runs happy hour specials and advertises them on its own site – but it does not publish the window, so we will not either. Confirm when you sit down rather than trusting anyone’s screenshot, ours included. The Verdict: you come for the room, the tin ceiling and a fairly priced pint under the horse head; a discount is a bonus, not the plan. The Local Move: sidewalk seat, golden hour, one long beer – the most Village hour available at any price. Doors are 4pm Monday to Wednesday, noon from Thursday.

Happy hourMon-Fri 4-7pm

Two personalities, one useful bar. By day the Red Lion is a Bleecker Street football pub showing every match with the sound actually on; by night it is one of the last rooms in the Village with live music seven nights and no cover on most sets. The happy hour bridges both – Monday to Friday, 4 to 7pm, on drafts and wells. The Verdict: the best something-is-always-happening room on this list, and the right answer when nobody in the group can agree. The Local Move: weekday 5pm gets you cheap pints, an early soundcheck and a stool you will not want to surrender. The Honest Caveat: it is on the loud stretch of Bleecker and it knows it – this is not the room for a conversation that matters.

West Village happy hour: FAQ

What’s the best happy hour in the West Village?

Due West is the benchmark: $1.50 oysters (six minimum), $9 wine and $11-12 draft cocktails off the real menu, Monday to Thursday 5-7pm and Friday 4-6pm. For pure savings, Down the Hatch takes 50% off the entire bar on weekdays until 7pm – roughly $2-$4 a drink. For a cocktail, Dante West Village pours $10 martinis daily from 3 to 5pm.

Where can I get $1 oysters in the West Village?

Ama Raw Bar at 39 Downing St runs a $1 oyster happy hour – the cheapest shell in the neighborhood – though it doesn’t publish the window on its own site, so call ahead. The reliable $1.50 option is Due West, Monday to Thursday 5-7pm and Friday 4-6pm. LELABAR lists $1.50 market oysters on Wednesdays and Saturdays only.

Does Dante have $10 negronis or $10 martinis?

Both, at different addresses. Dante West Village at 551 Hudson St runs Martini Hour – $10 signature martinis, daily 3-5pm. The $10 Negroni Hour is at Caffe Dante, the 1915 original at 79-81 MacDougal St in Greenwich Village, in the same 3-5pm window. They’re two blocks apart and constantly confused, including by us until this update.

Are there weekend happy hours in the West Village?

Yes, more than most Manhattan neighborhoods. Boucherie’s Green Hour runs daily 2-7pm at the bar, Art Bar is $5 everything 4-7pm seven days, Bobo’s Den happy hour is daily 5-7pm, LELABAR pours 4-6pm daily, and Dante’s $10 Martini Hour runs 3-5pm including weekends. Bandits and Down the Hatch are weekdays only.

What’s the cheapest happy hour in the West Village?

Down the Hatch, and it isn’t close: 50% off the entire bar from open until 7pm Monday to Friday, which puts most drinks between $2 and $4. Art Bar is the flat-rate alternative – $5 drafts, wells, house wine and sparkling, daily 4-7pm, seven days a week.

What are the best wine bars in the West Village for happy hour?

LELABAR is the pick – an oval-bar wine room on Hudson St with 700 bottles and happy hour glasses at $8-$10, daily 4-6pm. Note that Monday doors are 5pm, so the Monday window is short. For a date with more theater, Bobo’s townhouse Den runs $10 cocktails and $8 wines daily 5-7pm two blocks away.

Which West Village bars are best late at night?

Down the Hatch runs its basement to 4am with Atomic Wings till close, Art Bar’s kitchen goes to 4am seven days, the Red Lion has live music nightly on Bleecker with no cover on most sets, and White Horse Tavern keeps its literary-landmark hours on Hudson St. Employees Only shakes world-class cocktails past 3am, no deal required.
