Boqueria Flatiron: $2 Pan Con Tomate, $6 Croquetas and $8 Martinis at the Original Boqueria
Boqueria Flatiron runs happy hour Monday–Friday 3–6pm and Saturday–Sunday 4–6pm at 53 W 19th St, between Fifth and Sixth Avenues: $2 pan con tomate, $6 croquetas and patatas bravas, $8 mini martinis, $9 glasses of wine, $8 sangría and $6 Spanish beer.
The verdict: the food is the deal, and the weekend window is the bonus. Croquetas are $6 against $9 at dinner, the Angus beef sliders $12 against $15, and the Serrano ham grilled cheese $8 against $9.50. Pan con tomate goes by the piece at $2, so a table of four can start for $8. The honest caveat is the martini. The $8 classic and the $9 espresso martini are minis, and the full espresso martini on the dinner menu is $18, so most of that discount is in the size of the glass.
Also at: Boqueria Soho, Boqueria Upper East Side and Boqueria Times Square.
The Happy Hour
Boqueria’s website lists the Flatiron happy hour as Monday–Friday 3–6pm and Saturday–Sunday 4–6pm. OpenTable has the weekday window as 2:30–5:30pm. The restaurant’s own page wins that argument, but if you’re planning around the last half hour, call ahead.
Bites: pan con tomate $2 a piece, croquetas de jamón or de setas $6, patatas bravas $6, patatinas (house potato chips with whipped miti crema) $6, a Serrano ham grilled cheese with burrata $8, Angus beef sliders with sobrasada-bacon jam $12, and classic churros $6.
Drinks: house white (Verdejo), rosé or red (Tempranillo) at $9 a glass or $22 for the porrón; red, white or rosé sangría at $8 a glass or $32 a pitcher; a shishito-infused margarita at $9 or $29 a pitcher; Spanish beer $6; mini classic or dirty martinis $8 and a mini espresso martini $9. The zero-proof Forget-Me-Not is $6. For a group, there’s the Octo-shot: six shots for $35 with the house El Chupito (tequila, Licor 43, lime) or $52 with your choice of liquor, and it comes with free patatinas or patatas bravas.
The Room
This is the original. Boqueria opened on W 19th St in 2006, and the company credits this room with defining the modern tapas bar in New York. It runs from lunch through dinner, with brunch on weekends, and it takes private events. Past the happy-hour list, the dinner menu is the full Boqueria run: gambas al ajillo ($19.50), cheese and charcuterie three for $25, and paella built on bomba rice and saffron with the socarrat crust. The F and M at 14th and 23rd Streets and the 1 at 18th Street are all a short walk.
More windows nearby are in our Flatiron happy hour guide, and the rest of the city’s small plates are in our best tapas in NYC.
