Canyon Road: An Upper East Side Tex-Mex Standby With a Seven-Day Happy Hour
Canyon Road has been pouring margaritas on First Avenue since the mid-1980s, and its happy hour runs every day of the week: 4 to 7pm Monday through Thursday and 3 to 6pm Friday through Sunday. Drafts are $7, sangria $9, wine $10 and the house Canyon Margarita $11.
The weekend window is the real differentiator on the Upper East Side, where most deals stop on Friday. The snacks help too — wings, mini chimis, queso fundido, quesadillas, flautas and chicken tacos, all $14 during happy hour. Chef Ruperto Ramirez runs the kitchen.
The Happy Hour
Happy hour runs Monday–Thursday 4–7pm and Friday–Sunday 3–6pm. The drinks list: $7 draft beer, $9 red or white sangria, $10 wine, $11 Canyon Margarita (flavors rotate), an $18 bucket of six Coronitas, and a $42 party bucket of any six bottled beers. Every happy-hour snack is $14 — Canyon wings, mini chimis, queso fundido, quesadillas, flautas and chicken tacos among them. Canyon Road’s own page lists a noon weekend start in one place and 3pm in another; we’ve gone with 3pm, so confirm if you’re planning an early Saturday.
The Room
Canyon Road is at 1470 First Avenue on the Upper East Side, a neighborhood Mexican restaurant with a long bar and the same address it has had for decades. It takes reservations through Resy and hosts corporate events and private parties. The nearest trains are the Q at 72nd Street and the 6 at 77th Street.
