Dive Bar LIC: $8 cocktails and $9 burgers until 8pm on 36th Ave
Dive Bar LIC is the fight-night bar at 33-10 36th Ave, on the edge of Long Island City and Astoria, and its happy hour is one of the better ones in western Queens: Monday to Friday, 5 to 8pm, the $14–16 house cocktails drop to $8 and the $8 beers drop to $5.
The name oversells the grime. It’s a big sports-and-nightlife room with big screens, a dress code after 8pm on Fiesta Fridays, and an upstairs that fills for UFC and boxing cards. Go early for the deal; go late if you want the party.
The Happy Hour
From 5 to 8pm on weekdays the happy hour menu covers most of the bar:
- House cocktails (Sun Tan, Man of Honor, Tipsy Mermaid, La Yave Del Amor, Under the Cucumber): $8 (regular $14–16)
- Beers (Heineken, Stella Artois, Coors Light, Amstel Light, Sierra Nevada Hazy Lil Thing, White Claw): $5 (regular $8)
- House wine: $6
- Shots: $4
- Frozen drinks: $10
- Tacos, wings, the Dive Burger, the crispy chicken sandwich, loaded fries: $9 (the burger is $17 and the tacos $12–13 the rest of the night)
The verdict: $8 for a cocktail that costs $14 at 9pm is close to half off, and a $9 double smash burger is the best food deal on the block. One caveat: the homepage’s happy hour blurb and the itemised happy hour menu don’t quite match on a couple of prices; we’ve used the itemised menu.
Other Weekly Specials
- Tuesday: $9 margaritas all night.
- Wednesday: $9 martinis all night.
- Saturday and Sunday, 1–5pm: bottomless brunch, $24.95 for 90 minutes of mimosas, sangria and cocktails.
When to Go
Weekdays at 5pm for the happy hour, or a fight night if you want the room full. Happy hours change, so check before you go.
