ZiZi Wine Bar: $9 Glasses Until 6pm on John Street
ZiZi Wine Bar, at 45 John St between Nassau and William, is a small Mediterranean wine bar from the team behind ZiZi in Chelsea, and it has one of the more useful happy hours in the Financial District. It runs every day until 6pm, it covers bottles as well as glasses, and the food is good. Worth it — especially if you can sneak out before 6.
The Deal
Happy hour runs daily from opening (2pm weekdays, 3pm weekends) until 6pm:
- $9 glasses — a Crémant d’Alsace rosé, a Moroccan vin gris, a Greek Assyrtiko, a Pinot Grigio, a Tempranillo, a Carmel Shiraz and Turkey’s Selendi Green, among others
- 20% off all bottles, 10% off the reserve list
- 15% off the food menu
The Drinks
The full list is the fun part: it’s sorted by style rather than country and wanders well off the usual map. Lebanese Ksara, Armenian Yacoubian-Hobbs, a Georgian amber Rkatsiteli, Israeli Psâgot, a Hungarian dry Tokaj. Glasses mostly run $13–22 at full price. There’s a wine club too.
The Food
Mediterranean and Middle Eastern small plates. Start with a $4 Jerusalem bagel or hummus, then go to grilled halloumi, eggplant carpaccio, burrata, a striped bass ceviche, overnight lamb pita or lamb chops. Baklava cheesecake to finish. With 15% off before 6pm, it’s an easy early dinner.
