Juke Bar: A Second Avenue Cocktail Bar That Stays Open Until 4am
Juke Bar, at 196 Second Avenue in the East Village, is a cocktail bar that does two jobs well: a cheap early drink and a very late one. The regular list runs $15–16, which is standard Second Avenue pricing. Show up at 5pm on a weekday and the same kind of glass is $10. Stay past midnight and it’s still open, every night until 4am.
The name nods to Southern juke joints, which is how the place pitched itself when it opened in 2013. These days the drinks lean more mezcal than moonshine.
The Deal
Happy hour runs Sunday through Friday, 5–7pm on weekdays, with select cocktails at $10 and house spirits, beer and wine knocked down too. The bar says plainly that its happy hours sometimes change. Ask before you order a round for the table.
The Drinks
The house list is long. Mr. Thursday mixes mezcal and blanco tequila with passionfruit and jalapeño. The Maple Old Fashioned uses New York maple syrup. There’s an espresso martini, a lychee martini, a run of spritzes, and two $10 mocktails for the person who’s driving. Guinness is on draft, alongside Coney Island IPA and Blue Moon, and there’s a long can list if you’re keeping it simple.
The Room
The week has a schedule: trivia on Mondays, comedy on Tuesdays, DJs on weekends. Weeknights before 9 are your shot at a conversation. Weekends after 11, they aren’t. Private parties come with no fees or minimums, which is rare enough to be worth knowing.
