Little Rebel: An East Village Cocktail Bar With $9 Cocktails and $1 Oysters Until 7pm
Little Rebel is a two-story, maximalist cocktail bar on Second Avenue — neon, pop-art, and mugshot-style portraits of “rebels” (Bowie, Prince) lining the walls, with Victorian chandeliers waiting upstairs. It comes from Dermot Lynch and Jarek Krukow of Sel Rrose, and it does not take itself seriously: the cocktails are named after famous rebels (James Dean, Han Solo), the décor is loud in the best way, and the room shifts from social happy hour to full DJ party as the night goes on.
Underneath the funhouse styling is a genuinely good-value happy hour — long hours, real $9 cocktails, and dollar oysters — which is what makes this more than an Instagram backdrop.
The Happy Hour
The hours are the headline: this is one of the longest, best-value happy hours in the neighborhood.
- Monday–Friday, from open until 7pm — $9 signature cocktails and $1 Blue Point oysters
- Late-night, Monday–Thursday 10pm–2am — the cocktail of the week at happy-hour pricing
- The value play — $1 oysters is about as cheap as the East Village gets, and the cocktails hold their quality at $9
Seats near the bar fill fast during happy hour, so arrive early if you want one.
The Cocktails
The menu is inventive, colorful and fruit-forward — riffs on classics plus seasonal builds with personality. The Rebel Margarita, the James Dean and the Charlie’s Angels are the names regulars reach for. It’s premade-and-spirited-forward in the right way for a high-volume bar, which is exactly what you want at happy hour.
The Food
Shareable and better than it needs to be: crispy truffle fries, Brussels sprouts, sliders, the Rebel burger, a steak sandwich, fried short-rib croquettes. Weekend brunch is a thing here too — often themed, always energetic — making it a go-to for celebratory groups.
The Room
Two floors: a big bar with booths downstairs and a Victorian-styled room with chandeliers and a balcony upstairs (semi-private, good for parties). There’s a sidewalk patio, DJs take over late, and Sunday brings trivia at 7pm. It’s built for groups, twisty date nights, and a loud pre-game before the rest of the East Village.
