Ray's: A Disco-Ball Dive on Chrystie With a Happy Hour Worth Showing Up Early For
Ray’s is the bar at 177 Chrystie St, between Rivington and Stanton, that looks like a 1980s movie set of a dive bar, and the happy hour is good enough to make you forgive it. Weekdays from 5 to 7pm, it’s $5 High Life, $10 for a beer and a shot, and $12 house cocktails. Actor Justin Theroux is one of the partners, which explains the crowd on a Saturday. Go early on a weeknight.
The Deal
The happy hour menu runs Monday through Friday until 7pm, starting when the doors open at 5:
- $5 Miller High Life, $25 for a bucket
- $8 well shots, $10 beer and a shot
- $12 house cocktails (normally $14–$15)
- $7 for six hot wings, half the regular price
- $15 for a burger and a Peroni, or a martini and fries
The bar’s location page says weekdays until 8pm and weekends until 6pm, but the menu says 7pm, so count on 7.
The Room
Wood paneling, red vinyl stools, a jukebox, a disco ball and a pool table. The tables along the walls are the best seats. It gets packed on weekends, and that’s when it’s at its most fun and its least comfortable.
The Drinks
The house cocktails are all Ray puns (Stevie Ray, Ray Liotta, a Marga-Ray-Ta) at $14–$15, and the beer list is cheap cans: High Life, Coors Banquet and Bud Light at $6.
The Food
Proper bar food. Ray’s Burger and a Cuban sandwich at $13, a fried chicken sandwich at $12, nachos at $12, and wings at $14 for six outside happy hour.
