Witching Hour: A $4 Beer-and-a-Shot in Bushwick’s Year-Round Halloween Bar
Witching Hour runs a happy hour every day from 5 to 8pm at 1312 Decatur Street in Bushwick: $4 gets you a beer and a shot (Miller High Life or Tecate), a Corona is $5, and margaritas, old fashioneds and house wine are $6. The bar opens at 5, so the deal covers its first three hours, seven days a week. After 8, the house cocktails are $13.
The verdict: four dollars for a beer and a shot, in a bar that commits to its theme all year without letting it get in the way of the drinks. Picture a witch’s parlor run as a neighborhood bar: bramble around the door, tarot art on the menus, and a $6 old fashioned instead of a gimmick. The catch is the address. Decatur Street is the far end of Bushwick, a long way from the Jefferson St strip, so you have to mean to come here.
The Happy Hour
Every day until 8pm, from the bar’s own menu:
- Beer and a shot — Miller High Life or Tecate with a shot, $4
- Corona — $5
- Margaritas, old fashioneds, house wine — $6
- Dirty Water hard seltzer — $4
After 8 it’s the full menu, and it stays fair: the beer-and-a-shot goes up to $6, cans and bottles run $6–$12, wine is $10, and the house cocktails — Occult Fashioned, Lovespell, Glinda and the rest — are $13. The zero-proof list is $6 across the board. There’s no kitchen, just $4 chips and $2 popcorn, so outside food is always welcome, and pop-up kitchens set up on some nights.
The Room
Bramble frames the doorway and the menus look like a tarot deck, which tells you most of what you need to know. Past the theme it’s a small, casual bar with games in the corner and a calendar built for regulars. Monday is karaoke from 8pm, billed as the Bitchin’ Hour, and the bar runs Halloween parties, poetry afternoons and watch parties through the year.
It’s a walk-in bar. Doors are at 5pm daily, and it closes at midnight Sunday through Thursday and at 2am on Friday and Saturday.
