Orion Bar: A Bushwick Soju Bar With a $15 Jinro Bottle at 10pm

Orion Bar runs two happy hours at 157 Suydam St in Bushwick, and the late one is the reason to know about it: 10pm to midnight, Sunday through Thursday, $15 for a bottle of Jinro, $5 Terra lager and a $3 snack bag. The earlier window is 5 to 6pm the same nights — $12 frozen cocktails and $5 kimchi fries. The bar is closed Mondays, so “Sunday through Thursday” means four nights, not five.

Almost every happy hour in Bushwick has stopped by eight. Orion starts a second one at ten, which makes it a genuinely different proposition from the 4-to-7 crowd on Wyckoff and Troutman — this is a deal for the part of the night when you have already had dinner somewhere else. The trade-off is that the early window is exactly one hour long, which is short enough that you should treat it as a reason to arrive at 5 rather than a window you can drift into.

The Happy Hour

Both windows run Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. From 5 to 6pm it is $12 frozen cocktails and $5 kimchi fries — and on Tuesday through Thursday the doors open at 5pm, so the discount starts the moment they unlock. From 10pm to midnight it is $15 Jinro bottles, $5 Terra lager and a $3 snack bag, which on those nights is the last two hours before close. The Local Move: the $15 Jinro split between two people is the cheapest way to hold a table past ten anywhere near Central Ave. The Honest Caveat: the kitchen shuts at 11pm, so if the late window is the plan, order food in the first hour of it. Pricing on the frozen list shifts with the season — worth a glance at the board when you sit down.

The Room

A roomy Korean-American bar on Suydam just off Central Ave, opened in 2024 by Irene Yoo and Nick Dodge. There is a long bar toward the back and long tables built for groups, which is why this ends up hosting a lot of soju-fueled birthdays. Yoo cooks, and she is a serious soju person — the fridge is stocked accordingly, and the drinks list runs to soju bombs, makgeolli by the bottle and frozen cocktails, including a rum one served in a Spam can. The food is the real argument for staying: fried pork-and-kimchi dumplings, spam musubi, late-night ramyun, and a patty melt with kimchi pimento cheese that costs $22 and comes with those kimchi-seasoned fries. Nearest train is the M at Central Av, two minutes up the block.
