Jersey City/The Heights
Central Avenue, Palisade Avenue and Congress Street: a neighborhood of good local bars and almost no posted happy hours. Here’s what to expect instead.
No Heights bar posts a happy hour we can confirm. Prices are fair anyway.
The best bars in Jersey City Heights right now are Corkscrew (the local since 1976, open until 2 or 3am, with fair beer prices), Low Fidelity (a string-lit backyard, Detroit-style pizza and $5 drafts) and The Hutton (a corner pub with a heated back patio and Premier League on the TVs). One honest thing up front: none of them posts a happy hour we can confirm. The only deal in the neighborhood is a reported one, half-price apps at Paulie’s Brickhouse on weekdays. So this page is the Heights the way locals drink it: the right bar for the night, at regular prices that are already lower than downtown’s. It’s a light rail ride or a long walk from any PATH station.
Up Central Avenue, Palisade Avenue and Summit Avenue, from the south Heights by Journal Square to the Union City line. Light Rail to Ninth Street–Congress Street.

Very few that are posted. Paulie’s Brickhouse is reported to do half-price apps on weekdays 4–7pm. Corkscrew runs a $12 weekday lunch. Most Heights bars simply price lower than downtown.
Depends on the night: Corkscrew for the local bar and late hours, Low Fidelity for the backyard, The Hutton for a match on the patio, The Alps for a date.
Corkscrew and Low Fidelity stay open until 2am on weeknights and 3am on weekends.
There’s no PATH stop. Take the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail to Ninth Street–Congress Street, or walk up from Hoboken.
