Best Gaming Cafes
in NYC

Board-game cafés, arcade bars, pinball rooms and PC lounges — sorted by what the drinks and the play actually cost.

8 of these rooms run a real happy hour — most start between 3pm and 4pm

  • 28 verified rooms
  • 8 with a real happy hour
  • drafts from $3
  • play from free

The best gaming cafes NYC has right now are Barcade Brooklyn ($3 off drinks, Mon–Fri 4–6pm), Gebhard’s Beer Culture ($3 drafts and twelve pinball machines), Full Circle Bar (free skee-ball and a $4 beer with no clock on it), Sip & Play ($12 all-night Commander on Wednesdays) and SPIN Flatiron ($9 ping-pong tables after 9pm on Tuesdays). We verified all 28 rooms against their own sites in August 2026, and the headline is this: only 8 of them run a real happy hour. The other 20 charge you to play instead, and the gap between the cheapest and the priciest is nearly double. Below: the timed deals, the pinball rooms, what board-game cafés actually cost, PC and console lounges, pool, bocce and bowling, and an FAQ that answers the two questions everyone asks first.

The short version

Where the happy hour is actually real

Eight of the twenty-eight rooms on this page run a genuine, time-boxed food or drink deal. These are they, strongest discount first. More timed windows in our Friday happy hour guide.

Barcade BrooklynOn now

the original barcade, 22 years in · 388 Union Ave, Williamsburg $$$
$3 off beer, wine & well liquorMon–Fri 4–6pm
Mon–Fri4–6pm

The best arcade happy hour in the city, and it is not close. $3 off beer, wine and well liquor Mon–Fri 4–6pm is a full dollar deeper than any other Barcade, and the $8 boilermaker (Solid Gold pint plus any well) is the move. Cabinets take quarters, not a card, so the games stay honest. Come back at midnight Mon–Thu for the late window — $6 Solid Gold, $6 house margaritas, $7 strawberry. Service industry gets 15% off on Wednesdays. The honest caveat: Barcade announced a 1,000-day countdown to closing in July 2026 when the lease runs out, so you have roughly until spring 2029. Not tonight’s problem, but worth knowing.

Barcade FiDiOn now

newest NYC Barcade, opened 2025 · 10 Cortlandt St, Financial District $$$
$2 off beer, wine & wellsMon–Fri 12–6pm
Mon–Fri12–6pm

Six hours. The doors open at noon and the happy hour runs to 6pm, which makes this the longest arcade happy hour in New York by a mile. $2 off beer, wine and wells the whole way. The $20 lunch special 12–4pm is a burger or handheld, hand-cut fries and any $8 drink — genuinely good math for a Wall Street lunch. $1 fries all day Monday with any drink, $1 wings all day Saturday. The room is newer and cleaner than the Brooklyn original, which purists will hold against it. If you want a proper sports room after, Continental Sports Lounge is six blocks south.

Barcade St. Mark’s PlaceOn now

three hours, the longest weekday window uptown of Canal · 6 St. Mark’s Pl, East Village $$$
$2 off drinks + $5 Solid Gold pintsMon–Fri 4–7pm
Mon–Fri4–7pm

The one the old version of this page missed entirely. Mon–Fri 4–7pm is the longest evening happy hour of the four NYC Barcades, and the $5 Founders Solid Gold pint is a flat price, not a discount off something inflated. Open daily 2pm–2am, so the cabinets are running all afternoon. $1 fries Monday, $1 wings Tuesday, both all day with a drink. Late-night window Mon–Thu midnight–2am puts Solid Gold and strawberry margaritas at $5. On St. Mark’s, which means it fills with people who were going to be on St. Mark’s anyway — go before 6 if you want a machine.

Barcade ChelseaOn now

biggest room, $18 combo is the sleeper · 148 W 24th St, Chelsea $$$
$2 off drinks + $18 food-and-pint comboMon–Fri open–6pm
Mon–Friopening till 6pm

The happy hour here runs from open to 6pm Mon–Fri, which means 2pm on Mon–Thu and noon on Friday — a six-hour Friday most people never notice. The real find is the $18 combo: any sandwich or slider plate, hand-cut fries and a Solid Gold pint, same window. That is dinner and a drink for less than two cocktails anywhere else in Chelsea. $1 wings all day Tuesday. Late-night Mon–Thu midnight–2am drops Solid Gold and the house margarita to $5. Our pill above encodes the conservative 2pm start; Friday genuinely opens at noon.

Gebhard’s Beer CultureOn now

12 pinball machines and a $3 draft · 228 W 72nd St, Upper West Side $$$
$3 draft beers, $7 GuinnessMon–Fri till 6pm
Mon–Fritill 6pm

A $3 draft on the Upper West Side. That sentence should not be true in 2026 and it is, Mon–Fri until 6pm, alongside $7 Guinness and cocktail and wine specials they do not itemise. Twelve pinball machines take quarters, dollar bills or an app depending on the cabinet, and there is a quarter exchange behind the bar. The local move is Tuesday at 7:30pm — an IFPA-sanctioned tournament, so you can enter a ranked pinball competition for the price of a beer that costs less than the subway. Kids are welcome with a parent until 9pm, when it turns 21+. Doors are 3pm Mon–Thu and noon Fri–Sat, so Friday’s window is genuinely six hours.

Full Circle Bar

free skee-ball, $4 beer, no clock · 318 Grand St, Williamsburg $$$
Genny always $4 ($6 with a shot)all day, every day
Dailyno timed window — price is the price

Worth it, and it beats most happy hours outright. The Genny is $4 whenever you walk in — no 4-to-7 window, no wristband, no fine print — and $6 gets you the beer with a shot. Brewskee-Ball is currently free, which is the part nobody believes until they get there; this is the bar that invented competitive skee-ball leagues and it still runs them. Buoy is free too. Food is hand-cut fries and a hot knish, which is the correct amount of food for a skee-ball bar. Seventeen years at Grand and Havemeyer. No pill above because there is no window to light up — that is the point.

Five Iron Golf FlatironOn now

sims, shuffleboard, ping pong, bottomless wings · 605 Sixth Ave, Flatiron $$$
$5 bottomless boneless wings, $5 beers & cocktailsMon–Fri 3–6pm
Mon–Fri3–6pm

The best food deal on this page. $5 bottomless boneless wings, $10 bottomless bone-in, $5 select beers, cans and cocktails, $5 dips and half-price pizzas, Mon–Fri 3–6pm. It earns a slot on a gaming page because the golf sims are not the only thing here — there is shuffleboard and ping pong too, and you can play those without booking a bay. The honest caveat, in their own words: dine-in only, participating locations only, deals vary by location, and simulator rental may be required to take part. Call the Flatiron room before you build an evening on it. Six other NYC locations run the same program with the same asterisks.

SPIN New York FlatironOn now

17 Olympic tables, and a Tuesday that breaks the price · 48 E 23rd St, Flatiron $$$
$9 After 9 — tables drop from $49 to $9/hrTuesdays from 9pm
Tuesdays9pm–close

An 80% price cut, once a week. A table here is $49/hour Tue–Thu. On Tuesday from 9pm it is $9, and extending costs $9 too if a table is free. That is the single steepest game-rate drop in the city and almost nobody writes it down. Sip & Smash runs Friday and Saturday nights with half-off ping pong plus late-night bites and drink specials — they publish the discount but not the drink prices, so don’t plan a budget around it. Seventeen Olympic-grade tables, full bar, scratch kitchen. Closed Sundays, which is the wasted-trip trap here. Monday tables are $29 if you can’t make Tuesday.

e’s BAROn now

250 board games, full bar, no table fee · 511 Amsterdam Ave, Upper West Side $$$
Happy hour daily till 7pm (prices not published)+ $10 Martini Mondays
Dailytill 7pm

The only room on this page with a real bar, a real kitchen and no cover to play. Around 250 board games on the shelf, free, while the board-game cafés three subway stops away charge $15 a head. Happy hour runs every day until 7pm and Martini Mondays are $10 all night — both confirmed on their own channels. The honest caveat: they don’t publish the happy-hour prices anywhere, so we’re not going to invent them. Doors are 5pm Mon–Wed, 1pm Thu–Fri, noon on weekends, so the window is longer later in the week. Comedy Mondays and trivia Tuesdays fill the room; the games are easier to get on a Sunday afternoon.

Arcades and pinball, priced honestly

No happy hour, no cover, and in two cases no charge to play at all — the value is in the standing price. See also our best dive bars in NYC.

Sunshine Laundromat & Pinball

through the working laundromat, through a fake washer door · 860 Manhattan Ave, Greenpoint $$$
No happy hour — cans $5–$8, Roberta’s pizza $12beer & wine only
BarMon–Fri 5pm–2am, Sat–Sun 12pm–2am

The gag is real: you walk into a working laundromat, through what looks like a stacked washer, and come out in a pinball bar with a 21-machine leaderboard. There is no happy hour and they don’t pretend otherwise — the value here is that the standing prices are already low. Cans and bottles run $5–$8, soju is $4, wine $9, frosé $10, and a Roberta’s pizza is $12, which is the honest deal in the room. Beer and wine only, no liquor. Still doing laundry, still charging quarters for the machines, still the best bar-entrance in Brooklyn.

Scrappleland

new pinball bar with a rooftop and a fried chicken kitchen · 1150 Manhattan Ave, Greenpoint $$$
No happy hour — Korean fried chicken kitchen on siterooftop deck
BarMon–Fri 4pm–2am, Sat–Sun 12pm–2am

The newest pinball room in north Brooklyn, in the old Greenpoint Beer & Ale space, and almost nobody has written about it yet. The two things that separate it from every other pinball bar in the city: a rooftop deck, so you can go up for air between games, and Peeps Korean Fried Chicken running a real kitchen inside (Mon–Thu 4–10pm, Fri to 11pm, weekends 12–10pm) instead of the usual bag of chips. No happy hour published. Beer-forward list — Jack’s Abby, Greenpoint Black Duck Porter, Prima Pils, Pinner. Ten minutes up Manhattan Ave from Sunshine, so the two make an obvious crawl.

Wonderville

30+ cabinets you have never played, free · 1186 Broadway, Bushwick $$$
Every game free to play, no cover21+, till 4am Fri–Sat
Daily6pm–2am (4am Fri–Sat)

The only arcade in New York where you cannot possibly have played the games before. Every one of the 30-plus cabinets was built by an independent developer — no Galaga reissues, no Ms. Pac-Man — and all of them are free to play with no cover, which quietly makes this the cheapest night on the page. 21+ at all times, open to 4am Friday and Saturday, hot dogs by Randwiches, custom cocktails. No happy hour published. Worth knowing: the "members happy hour" you’ll see on their calendar is a private event series, not a public deal — don’t turn up expecting a discount.

Board-game cafés: what you actually pay

Nobody in this category runs a drink deal. What they run is a play fee, and the gap between the cheapest and the priciest is nearly double. Nearby drinking in our Park Slope guide.

Sip & Play

the only board-game cafe running actual weekly deals · 471 5th Ave, Park Slope $$$
$12 Commander Wednesdays, all night+ free chess Mondays
Play fee$10 Mon–Thu, $12 Fri–Sun (3 hrs)

The best-value board-game café in the city, and the only one running deals worth the word. The standard fee is $10 Mon–Thu, $12 Fri–Sun for three hours. But Wednesday Commander night is $12 for the entire night with no three-hour clock — cheaper than their own weekend walk-in rate for twice the time. Park Slope Chess Club is free, Mondays at 6pm. Fridays after 4pm, kids play half price with a parent. Real kitchen (fries, tenders, sandwiches $6.50–$14), boba, coffee, beer and wine from rotating local breweries. Kitchen closes three hours before the room does — the one caveat that catches people out.

The Uncommons

the city’s first board-game cafe, 1,000+ games · 230 Thompson St, Greenwich Village $$$
$8 student rate Mon–Thu (from $10)beer & wine, no kitchen
Play fee$10 walk-in, $8 students Mon–Thu

The one that started it, still the best library in Manhattan at 1,000-plus games, and open 363 days a year. $10 gets you in; students pay $8 Mon–Thu, which is the only discount here and the cheapest way into a Village game room. Reservations are $17 a head with a three-hour cap and no refunds for any reason, so walk in if you can. Beer and wine only, 30-plus rotating bottles, and no kitchen — outside food is not allowed except for dietary needs, and corkage is $10. The local move: Thursday is Commander night and Friday is draft night, both loud and card-heavy. Weekday afternoons are when the room is actually quiet.

Hex & Co.

three locations, the East Side one has cocktails · 801 Broadway (Union Sq) + 2 more $$$
$10 student & kid rate Mon–Thu (from $15)free seating till 5pm with a purchase
Play fee$15 walk-in, $10 students/kids Mon–Thu

Three rooms — Union Square, 2911 Broadway on the Upper West Side, 1462 First Ave on the East. The East Side location is the only one with a cocktail menu; the others are beer and wine, and the site is vague enough that you should check before you promise anyone a drink. $15 walk-in, $10 for students and kids Mon–Thu. The underused perk: seating and wifi are free with any café purchase until 5pm at all three — that gets you a table and a coffee, not the game library, but it is the cheapest way to sit down in Union Square. Same ownership family as The Uncommons, which is why the fee ladders match.

Squarrel Cafe

cheapest table fee in the city, no booze · 572 Atlantic Ave, Boerum Hill $$$
$8 for three hours ($15 unlimited)no alcohol
Play fee$8 / 3 hrs, $15 unlimited

$8 for three hours is the cheapest way to sit down with a board game in New York, and $15 buys the whole day. Skip it if you want a drink — there is no alcohol at all, just coffee, tea and boba ($5.75–$8). What they do have is a real snack menu instead of a vending machine: onigiri $4.50, karaage $6.50, fries $6.50, dumplings $10, chicken rice bowl $12. Ages 5 and up, open from 9am, and Wednesday D&D night runs to 11pm when the rest of the week shuts at 10. If you want games and beer in the same room in Brooklyn, go to Sip & Play instead.

Chaotic Good Cafe

serious coffee at 8am, beer and Catan at 9pm · 200 W 84th St, Upper West Side $$$
Free kids play on weekendsbeer & wine, no full bar
OpenMon–Thu 8am–10pm, Fri–Sat till 11pm

The newest board-game room on the Upper West Side and the only one that is a genuine coffee shop first — Louisiana-style cafés au lait and pour-overs from 8am, then beer and wine for adults once the tables fill. Kids play free on weekends. They don’t publish an adult table fee anywhere, which is the one thing to sort out at the counter before you sit down. Direct competitor to Hex & Co a few blocks away, and the better pick if you want to arrive before noon. For a $3 draft and a pinball machine instead, Gebhard’s is twelve blocks south.

Brooklyn Game Knight

500 games, a full bar, and a lending library · 68 34th St, Industry City $$$
$12 for four hours — the longest session on the pageclosed Mondays
Play fee$12 / 4 hrs, Tue–Sun

Four hours for $12 is the best time-to-money ratio of any board-game room here, and the take-away library is unique in the city — the same $12 and a card on file borrows a game to take home. 500-plus titles, and they advertise a full bar with cocktails and "daily drink specials." The honest caveat: they publish no drink menu, no prices, no days and no times for those specials, so we are not printing one. Call before you build a night on it. Closed Mondays — the most common wasted trip on this page. Their own site prints 86 34th St while Industry City and Time Out both say 68; we’ve used the landlord’s number, and the building is the same either way.

The Brooklyn Strategist

the most serious library, and it moved · 148 Pierrepont St, Brooklyn Heights $$$
$15 per person, walk-in or reservedcafe, no bar confirmed
Play fee$15 per person

Read this before you go: it moved. Anything still sending you to 333 Court Street in Carroll Gardens is out of date — The Brooklyn Strategist now sits at 148 Pierrepont St in Brooklyn Heights. $15 a head, walk-in or reserved, and the deepest, most curated shelf of the Brooklyn rooms, with classes, camps and workshops around it. Two caveats we can’t resolve for you: they publish no opening hours anywhere, so call (718) 576-3035, and while there is a café with hot food and drink, we could not confirm alcohol first-party. Third-party listings say craft beer. Don’t promise anyone a pint.

PC, console and esports

Hourly rates, bundle discounts, and only one of the three serves alcohol. More late rooms in the best clubs in NYC guide.

OS NYC

the city’s video-game bar, now with Switch 2 · 50 Bowery, Chinatown $$$
Day pass from 3pm weekdays, noon weekendstournaments Mon–Wed
Day passMon–Fri 3pm–12am, Sat–Sun 12pm–12am

The best-run gaming bar in the city and the one that absorbed BrookLAN’s community when the Bushwick space closed in early 2026. High-end PCs plus PS5, Xbox and Switch 2, all playable all day, with Magic Monday, Smash Ultimate Tuesday and Smash Melee Wednesday as the standing weekly bill. A correction we owe you: the previous version of this page advertised a noon-to-6pm happy hour here. Day-pass doors don’t open until 3pm on weekdays, so that window could never have existed, and OS publishes no happy hour at all today. Two entry tiers — OS PLUS members get in at 9am, everyone else at 3pm. Four subway lines within two blocks.

Waypoint Cafe

30 PCs, a stream room, and zero alcohol · 65 Ludlow St, Lower East Side $$$
$40 buys 12 hours ($3.33/hr vs $5 walk-up)no alcohol served
PC time$5/hr, or $40 for 8+4 bonus hrs

Thirty PCs on Roccat peripherals plus a dedicated stream room on 144Hz monitors, and the only room on this page open past midnight without a liquor licence. There is no alcohol here at all — say it plainly, because the café menu reads like a bar’s (avocado toast $8, sandwiches $7–$9, salads $8–$10, proper espresso from $3). The value mechanic is the bundles: $5 an hour walk-up, but $20 buys four hours plus a bonus, and $40 buys eight plus four — twelve hours at $3.33. Open to 2am Friday and Saturday. Reservations only for parties of five-plus, a day ahead, and Fri–Sun they stop taking bookings after 2pm because the weekend fills.

Gaming Dojo

the closest thing NYC has to a Seoul PC bang · 36-29 Main St, Flushing $$$
$8/hr with a follow (from $10)open till 5am weekends
PC time$10/hr drop-in, $8/hr members

The page’s only Queens entry and the closest thing the city has to a real Seoul PC bang — open until 5am on Friday and Saturday, 3am the rest of the week. $10 an hour walk-in, but membership is a social-media follow and drops it to $8, which is the entire trick. Day pass $50, week $85, month $199. In-house kitchen. The honest caveat: they list no alcohol anywhere, so assume there is none. If you are coming from Manhattan the 7 to Flushing-Main St puts you at the door, and at 3am that is a very different journey home than a Barcade in the East Village.

Pool, shuffleboard, bocce and bowling

The game bars — where the game is free or cheap and the drinks are regular price. More rooms like these in our best sports bars in NYC guide.

Cellar Dog

live jazz at 7 every night, downstairs, games everywhere · 75 Christopher St, West Village $$$
$2 board games, unlimited — the cheapest thing in the roomcover $5–$10 after 6pm
Games$8–$9 per player per hour; jazz 7pm nightly

Live jazz at 7pm every single night, downstairs, while people play pool over it. Nowhere else in the city does this. Pool, ping pong and shuffleboard run $8 per player per hour Sun–Thu and $9 Fri–Sat, on top of a cover of $5 after 6pm Sun–Thu, $10 Fri–Sat. The local move is the $2 board games — two dollars per player, unlimited, which turns a $5 cover night into the cheapest hours-long hang in the West Village. Open to 4am Thu–Sat. No happy hour published first-party, and we’re not repeating one we can’t verify. Get there before 6 and you skip the cover entirely.

Ace Bar

skee-ball, pool, darts, 16 taps, since 1993 · 531 E 5th St, East Village $$$
Leagues every week — pool Mon, trivia Tue, skee-ball Thuopen till 4am daily
OpenMon–Fri 3pm–4am, Sat–Sun 1pm–4am

An East Village institution since 1993, and the most game-dense dive on the page: skee-ball, two pool tables, darts and sixteen taps in one long room. Outside food is welcome, which is a genuinely useful policy at 1am on Fifth Street. Open till 4am every night, 21+ with valid ID, cash and card both fine. The weekly bill is the reason to plan around it: pool league Monday, trivia Tuesday, skee-ball league Thursday. They publish no happy hour on their own site and we’re not sourcing one from an aggregator — ask at the bar. For a proper timed deal three blocks west, Barcade St. Mark’s runs 4–7pm.

Nancy Whiskey Pub

free shuffleboard upstairs, kitchen till 3am · 1 Lispenard St, Tribeca $$$
Shuffleboard is free — no $60 court feekitchen open till 3am
OpenMon–Sat 11am–4am, Sun 12pm–4am

The anti-Royal Palms. Same game, upstairs, free, in a corner bar that has been on Lispenard since long before Tribeca was a real estate category. The other rare thing: the kitchen runs until 3am every night, and the burger is the one to order. No published happy hour, but there is no court fee, no reservation and no hostess, which is worth more than $2 off a beer. If you want shuffleboard with tropical cocktails and a $60-an-hour court instead, that’s Royal Palms in Gowanus — both are on this page and they are not the same night out.

Union Hall

two indoor bocce courts, free, in a room that looks like a library · 702 Union St, Park Slope $$$
Bocce is free, first-come, first-served21+ at all times
Boccefree outside league hours (Mon/Tue/Thu 7–10pm)

Two indoor clay bocce courts, free and first-come first-served, in a room full of books and leather chairs that looks like a library that started drinking. Downstairs is a real music and comedy venue, so the building gives you two nights in one. The local move: go before 7pm on a Monday, Tuesday or Thursday or league play takes both courts until 10 and you’re watching, not playing. 21 and over with valid ID, no exceptions, even for the early bocce. We’ve seen a Mon–Fri 4–7pm happy hour attributed to them around the web, including on our own venue page; it isn’t on their site, so treat it as unconfirmed until they say so.

The Royal Palms Shuffleboard Club

ten courts, tropical cocktails, food trucks · 514 Union St, Gowanus $$$
$60/hr per court — $10 a head split six waysSundays are all ages
Courts$60 per court per hour, walk-in at the desk

Worth it with six people, a tourist tax with two. $60 buys an hour on a court, so the maths is entirely about your group: $10 a head split six ways is fine, $30 each is not. Walk-ins sign up at the front desk and get capped at an hour when it’s busy. Tropical cocktail bar, food trucks parked inside instead of a kitchen, and no published drink happy hour. The underused window is Sunday — 12pm to 8pm is Family Day and all ages, where the rest of the week is 21+. For the same game with no court fee, Nancy Whiskey in Tribeca is free.

The Gutter

vintage lanes, 24 craft taps, 21+ at all times · 200 N 14th St, Williamsburg $$$
$30 per half hour per lane (Sun–Thu)open till 4am
Lanes$30 per half hour, $35 Fri–Sat; shoes $6

Wood-panelled vintage lanes that feel transplanted from a 1970s union hall, 24 American craft beers on tap, and 21+ at all times — there is no family hour here at all. Lanes are $30 per half hour Sun–Thu, $35 Fri–Sat, shoes $6, socks $4, and the room runs to 4am. Two more locations: 77 Essex on the Lower East Side, which has a full kitchen with brick-oven pizza and a 100-foot bar, and Long Island City, which adds pinball and foosball. The honest caveat: a late-night midnight-to-4am unlimited-bowling deal circulates online for this bar and it appears nowhere on their own site. Ask at the desk rather than turning up expecting it.

Gaming cafés in NYC: FAQ

Which NYC gaming spots actually have a happy hour?

Eight of the twenty-eight we verified. Barcade Brooklyn is the best at $3 off beer, wine and well liquor Mon–Fri 4–6pm; Barcade St. Mark’s runs 4–7pm with $5 Founders Solid Gold pints; Barcade FiDi and Chelsea both run from opening until 6pm with $2 off. Gebhard’s Beer Culture pours $3 drafts and $7 Guinness Mon–Fri until 6pm alongside twelve pinball machines. Five Iron Golf does $5 bottomless wings and $5 drinks 3–6pm, SPIN Flatiron drops tables to $9 after 9pm on Tuesdays, and e’s BAR runs a daily happy hour until 7pm. Every other room on this page charges a play fee instead.
