No happy hour — Artichoke is a late-night slice institution. The move is the namesake Artichoke slice — thick, doughy, heaped with creamy artichoke-spinach sauce — open daily to 5am.

Artichoke Basille’s Pizza: The East Village Slice That Started It All

Artichoke Basille’s doesn’t run a happy hour — it’s a late-night slice shop — but the East Village flagship is the original, home of one of the city’s most famous slices, open daily until 5am.

Founded in 2008 by Staten Island cousins Francis Garcia and Sal Basille (named for Sal’s mother), it reshaped the NYC slice scene. The honest read: it’s a no-frills counter with limited seating, and the reason to go is the signature slice, ideally late.

What to Expect

No happy hour. The signature is the Artichoke slice — a thick, doughy square heaped with a creamy artichoke-spinach-and-cream-sauce topping, mozzarella and pecorino. The crab and margherita slices have their fans too. The original was a tiny takeout window on E 14th; it moved to this larger home a few doors west in 2017. Open to 5am.

The Room

A no-frills counter-service shop with limited seating on E 14th, a block from the 1st Ave L. The brand has grown to a dozen-plus outposts (Greenwich Village, Chelsea, Times Square) plus a cookbook and Goldbelly shipping, but this is the flagship. Crowd: late-night and after-bar.
