Bronx / Woodlawn

Woodlawn
Happy Hour

Twenty-two bars between Katonah Avenue and McLean, one published happy hour between them, and a street that changed hands four times while every other guide looked away.

One published happy hour on the whole strip — Mulligan’s, weekdays 5–7pm.

  • 22 bars verified
  • 1 real happy hour
  • 0 published pint prices
  • open till 4am

Every venue re-checked against its own site, its own socials and the city’s inspection records, August 2026. Deals change — tell us if yours has.

The best happy hour in Woodlawn is a dinner. Rory Dolan’s runs three courses for $24.95 Monday to Thursday, 3:30 to 6pm. McKeon’s Early Bird runs 4 to 6pm the same nights and puts a free mimosa, Bloody Mary, beer or wine in with Sunday brunch. And John Mulligan’s Fireside Pub is the only bar on the whole strip that publishes a happy hour window at all — weekdays, 5 to 7pm — and it does not publish the prices. That is the complete list. Twenty-two bars across Katonah Avenue and McLean, one drinks happy hour between them, and not a single published pint price on either street. What Woodlawn does instead is cheap all the time, 4am licences, and rooms that have not changed in forty years — plus four that changed hands since 2023 and are still listed under the old names everywhere else.

Map: where these 22 bars are

Two parallel strips, ten minutes apart on foot: Katonah Avenue in the Bronx, McLean Avenue over the Yonkers line. Pins are numbered to match the table.

Pins are numbered to match the table above — tap any pin for the detail and directions.

The only published numbers on the strip

Three fixed windows and one bar that prints its prices. That is the complete list. For weekday deals with actual price tags, our Monday and Tuesday guides cover the rest of the city.

John Mulligan’s Fireside PubOn now

Family pub since 1977, and a burger with a reputation · 4272 Katonah Ave, Bronx $$$
Happy hour window published, prices notask at the bar
HoursWeekdays 5–7pm

The only bar on either strip that publishes a happy hour at all — and even then it publishes the window, not the prices. Weekdays 5 to 7, per their own site. What you pay is a conversation with whoever’s pouring. Go anyway, because the burger is the actual reason: Ice-T, who filmed here, called it the best in the Bronx and left it at that. Law & Order: SVU shot an episode in the room in 2022. The Mulligans have had it since 1977, Leitrim to Katonah Avenue, and Tom has it now. Karaoke every other Saturday, 10pm to 2am. The Fireside Burger is $12 and the wings are $14, which tells you more about the pricing here than a happy hour sign would. The honest caveat: their site says Tue–Sun 2pm–2am and Google says Mon–Sat from noon. Ring before you make a Monday of it.

Rory Dolan’sOn now

The big room on McLean — 45+ taps, 35 screens, free valet · 890 McLean Ave, Yonkers $$$
$24.95 Early Bird, three coursesMon–Thu 3:30–6pm
HoursMon–Thu 3:30–6pm

The best-value fixed window on McLean Avenue is a dinner, not a drink. $24.95 gets three courses Monday to Thursday, 3:30 to 6pm — salad or soup, then salmon, chicken marsala, roast beef or the chicken linguini, then rice pudding or pie. Groups of six and under, no holidays, and the ++ means tax and tip on top. What Rory Dolan’s does not have, despite a page on its own site headed Drink Specials, is a happy hour: that page lists after-dinner drinks by name and prints no price, no day and no time. Cocktails are $14. Tacos are $5 on Tuesday and Wednesday, prime rib is $35 on Thursday. The local move: the valet next door is free, which on this stretch is worth more than a dollar off a pint.

McKeon’s Bar & RestaurantOn now

Seven screens, a Kilkenny tap, and a free drink with brunch · 996 McLean Ave, Yonkers $$$
Free mimosa, Bloody Mary, beer or wine with Sunday brunch10am–3pm Sun
HoursMon–Thu 4–6pm · plus Sun 10am–3pm

Two fixed windows, and one of them is genuinely free. The Early Bird runs Monday to Thursday, 4 to 6pm — their own site publishes the window and no price, so ask when you sit down. The one to plan around is Sunday brunch, 10am to 3pm: a full Irish, steak and eggs or anything off the regular menu comes with a complimentary mimosa, Bloody Mary, screwdriver, beer or wine. That is a free drink with breakfast in a room with seven screens on. They also pour Kilkenny, which a regular checking in last December reckoned made them one of two pubs around here doing it. Cards taken, which is not universal on this street.

The Tavern on McLean

The old Moriarty’s, reopened — and the only bar here that prints its prices · 986 McLean Ave, Yonkers $$$
Beer $6–9 · Jameson $9 · wine $9–10no discount window
HoursDaily 10am–2am

The only bar on this entire strip that publishes what it charges. Beer $6 to $9. Jameson $9. Tito’s $9. Wine $9 to $10. Summer cocktails $14. No happy hour, no discount window — just numbers you can check before you walk in, which on a street where nobody prints a pint price is its own kind of deal. This is the old Moriarty’s room, same phone number, reopened by its own description as the Emerald Mile’s newest Irish bar, restaurant and live music venue. The local move: doors at 8am Saturday and Sunday for the all-day Irish breakfast, $16, which beats queueing anywhere else on McLean.

Katonah Avenue: the Bronx blocks

Five rooms between 4272 and 4352, all within a short walk of the 4 train at Woodlawn. Nobody on this avenue publishes a pint price — we checked when we built the best Guinness in New York guide.

Rambling House

The flagship — 25+ taps and a retractable roof out back · 4292 Katonah Ave, Bronx $$$
No happy hour · no published pint priceThu trivia, live music 3 nights
HoursSun–Thu 11am–2am · Fri–Sat to 4am

The flagship, and the one to bring someone to. Twenty-five-plus taps including Gun Hill from up the road, live music three nights a week, trivia on Thursday, and the Secret Garden out back — a room with a retractable roof, which in the Bronx counts as engineering. Family-run for almost twenty-five years, walls hung with photographs of Ireland and the neighbourhood. No happy hour, and no published pint price: when we priced Guinness across the city, Katonah Avenue was the one strip where nobody would print a number. Open to 2am Sunday through Thursday and 4am at weekends. Order the Gaelic Burger. The honest caveat: they say three music nights and never say which three.

The Burren Public House

This is Keane’s — new owners, new kitchen, same 4am licence · 4342 Katonah Ave, Bronx $$$
Tea room 11am–6pm · bar till 4amno happy hour
HoursMon–Fri 3pm–4am · weekends from noon

This is Keane’s. Four Woodlawn parents bought it in 2025, took the old Coachman’s Inn space next door into it, and reopened it with the most interesting kitchen on the avenue — Szechuan spice bag, Roscommon ramen, Dublin dumplings, corned beef and cabbage egg rolls, Bailey’s affogato. It runs as two rooms: a tea room with a stocked bookshelf, Wednesday to Sunday 11 to 6, and a bar that goes to 4am. Live music and poetry readings. It ran a $35 three-course menu for the North Bronx restaurant week in May, which is not something the old room would have done. Worth it — and every other guide to this street still calls it Keane’s.

Behan’s Public House

Pub in daylight, dance floor after dark · 4299 Katonah Ave, Bronx $$$
No happy hour publishedGuinness-led
HoursDaily 10am–4am*

One room, two completely different bars depending on when you turn up. Daytime it is soccer on the screens and an older crowd nursing pints; stay late enough and the DJs turn it into a dance floor. A fit-out of eight Martin Audio speakers and four subwoofers after a fire is not something you install for background music. Named for Brendan Behan, with his lines on the walls, and Guinness is the pour it leads with. The honest caveat: nobody publishes hours for this place — listings say 10am to 4am — and the two phone numbers circulating for it do not agree. No happy hour, and no prices anywhere.

The Avenue

An aluminium shack out front, a serious pool table inside · 4352 Katonah Ave, Bronx $$$
No happy hour · no kitchenpool and darts
HoursMon–Sat 10am–4am · Sun from noon

You walk through what looks like an aluminium shed to get in, and then you are in a red room with a pool table the locals take seriously — the Bronx Times put it in the borough’s top ten for pool. Weekdays the competition is real; weekends they cover the table for live music and seating. Darts too. No kitchen, so eat first, though they put a spread out for occasions. No happy hour and no published prices, but the tab reads like a neighbourhood bar because that is what it is. The honest caveat: parking on this block is genuinely bad. Take the 4 to Woodlawn and walk.

Just One Tavern

Newest room on the avenue, built around seven screens · 4279 Katonah Ave, Bronx $$$
No happy hour publishedseven screens, 11am–4am
HoursMon–Sat 11am–4am · Sun to 2am

The newest room on Katonah Avenue and the one built for a Sunday of football: seven big screens, doors at 11am, open to 4am six nights a week. This is the old Well storefront, licensed and trading since 2024, and it is the only bar on this list whose most recent city inspection was this month — a low bar for a recommendation, but a real signal somebody is minding it. No happy hour published, no prices published. Go here instead of standing three deep at Rambling House when a game is on.

Changed names, still listed wrong

Two Katonah Avenue rooms that changed hands since 2023 and are still filed under the old signs everywhere else, including the Irish pub directories.

The Oakleaf

The old Lark’s Nest, renamed in 2025 · 4280 Katonah Ave, Bronx $$$
Hours not published anywheredarts league team
Hours— not published

This was Lark’s Nest. It is not Lark’s Nest any more — it changed hands and names in 2025, and every directory on the internet, the Irish pub guides included, still has the old sign on 4280. The city’s own inspection roll has The Oakleaf trading as of March. They field a team in the Bronx–Westchester dart league. The honest caveat, and it is a real one: they publish no hours anywhere and the public footprint is thin, so ring before you make the trip. It is on this page because being right about what is actually on this street is the whole job.

Horse & Jockey

The old Aqueduct North, under new colours since 2023 · 4277 Katonah Ave, Bronx $$$
No happy hour publishedtrivia and live music
HoursDaily 12pm–2am*

The old Aqueduct North, which was a Katonah Avenue fixture, under new colours since around the middle of 2023. Full bar and a working kitchen, outdoor seating, trivia and live music on the calendar. Listings put it at noon to 2am daily, but that is third-party — the venue publishes nothing itself. The honest caveat: the freshest proof of trading we could find is a 2025 city inspection and social activity last autumn, so give it a call before you rely on it. And ignore the .us domain that comes up first in search — that is a pub in Florida.

Round the corner on East 233rd

Two minutes off the avenue, and both worth it. Honest prices, pool tables, and the only proper back garden in Woodlawn — more in our best dive bars in NYC guide.

Kelly’s Pub

Back garden, pool, darts, bring your own dinner · 23 E 233rd St, Bronx $$$
No happy hour — and it does not need oneBYO food
Hours— not published

Round the corner on 233rd, and the reason to make the walk is the back garden — almost nobody on this strip has outdoor space that is not a stretch of sidewalk. Pool tables, dart boards, a jukebox that pulls requests off the internet. No kitchen, so bring food; nobody minds. A regular summed the pricing up better than we could: it does not have a happy hour, and it does not need one. The honest caveat: the hours are not published anywhere, so this is a walk-past-and-look sort of bar.

The Hideout Tavern

Across from the cemetery, and it pours — that is the offer · 143 E 233rd St, Bronx $$$
No happy hour publishedGuinness and pool
HoursDaily 11am–4am

Directly across from Woodlawn Cemetery, open 11am to 4am, and it does exactly one thing: it pours. Guinness on tap, pool tables good enough for the Bronx Times’ borough top ten, and no live music at all — which is the point. If Katonah Avenue on a Saturday night is more than you want, this is the room to sit in. Worth it for the pool and the quiet. No happy hour, no published prices, no surprises.

Over the line: McLean Avenue

McLean Avenue is the city line. The addresses below are Yonkers, Westchester County — not New York City — but locals walk between the two strips without thinking about it, so we cover both and say which is which.

Saints & Scholars

Chandeliers, a working fireplace and a disco ball · 790 McLean Ave, Yonkers $$$
No happy hour · cash only, reportedlykaraoke Mondays
HoursDaily not published*

The one room on McLean Avenue that does not look like the others. Chandeliers, banquette seating, framed mirrors, a working fireplace and a disco ball, black-and-white tile, flags over the bar. Aidan Loughran built something closer to a Dublin cocktail room than a McLean Avenue pub, and the kitchen follows: scallops with crispy black pudding, pork and leek bangers with onion jam and mash, a menu that changes daily. Karaoke every Monday. The honest caveat: several listings say cash only with an ATM inside, nothing first-party confirms it, and there is no venue website to check — so bring cash. Nobody publishes the hours either.

The Heritage Bar & Restaurant

Three rooms and 4,000 square feet, one of them called the Speakeasy · 960 McLean Ave, Yonkers $$$
No happy hour publishedlive music, licence to 3am
HoursDaily 8am–3am

Four thousand square feet across three rooms — the main dining room, Eileen’s Room, and one they call the Speakeasy — with a licence that runs to 3am and live music on the calendar. It is the biggest operation on this stretch and it is built for a function; the main room alone takes 120 standing. Two corrections we owe you. We previously had it open 9am to 4am; every source now agrees it is 8am to 3am. And theheritagebar.com is dead — the domain resolves to nothing, so Instagram is the only live channel. No happy hour published, and no prices.

Ned Devine’s Saloon

Home bar of the Bronx Bhoys — an official Celtic supporters’ club · 940 McLean Ave, Yonkers $$$
No happy hour publishedCeltic on the screens
HoursDaily 9am–4am*

If you follow Celtic, this is your bar in New York. It is the home of the Bronx Bhoys CSC, an official supporters’ club that moved here from the Whistlin’ Donkey, so the games are on and so is everybody. Live music at weekends, DJs on summer evenings, a jukebox people actually feed, and Sunday night is the busy one — heavy with the J1 crowd. Guinness and Sloop Juice Bomb are what people are drinking. The honest caveat: one listing says cash only and nothing else backs it up, so bring some. The hours are disputed too, somewhere between 9am and noon until 4am.

The Whistlin’ Donkey

Live music and a kitchen that will do you breakfast at midnight · 641 McLean Ave, Yonkers $$$
No happy hour publishedbreakfast served anytime
HoursMon–Fri 11am–4am · weekends from 10am

The far end of McLean, and the one with a kitchen worth planning around: battered cod and hand-cut chips, a Fireball burger, a Reuben, and breakfast served whenever you want it — French toast at 11pm is a legitimate order here. Live music is the calling card, and there is a private room if you are bringing a crowd. Open 11am to 4am on weekdays, from 10am at weekends. No happy hour, no published prices. The honest caveat: the Whistlin’ Donkeys touring Ireland are a band, not this bar — do not plan a night off a ticketing result.

Ireland’s 32

No kitchen, DJs at weekends, open seven days to 4am · 817 McLean Ave, Yonkers $$$
No happy hour — correcting our own pageDJs Fri & Sat
HoursDaily 10am–4am

A drinking bar, plainly. No kitchen at all, DJs on Friday and Saturday, 10am to 4am seven days, new management since around 2024. A correction we owe you: this page previously said Ireland’s 32 ran discounted drafts in an early-evening window. It does not, and no source says it does — that claim almost certainly walked over from the Ireland’s 32 in San Francisco, a different bar with a different happy hour. There are at least four bars with this name in the United States. This is the one at 817 McLean, and it publishes no prices at all.

JP Clarke’s Saloon

Bring your own food and they will grill it out back · 947 McLean Ave, Yonkers $$$
No happy hour publishedBYO food, back garden
Hours— not published

Drinks only, and the food arrangement is the charm: bring your own and they will cook it on the grill out back for a few dollars a head. That garden is the real asset on a June evening. A serious whiskey shelf, and local taps — Yonkers Brewing, Captain Lawrence. Séamus and Caitríona Clarke retired in 2023 after years of sponsoring Leitrim, who wore JP Clarke, New York across their chests; that era is over and the pub kept going. The honest caveat: the two sets of hours circulating for it are irreconcilable, so ring first.

Fagan’s Ale House

Nineteen hours a day, live music Saturdays, quiz on Wednesdays · 942 McLean Ave, Yonkers $$$
No happy hour publishedtrivia Wed 7pm
HoursDaily 9am–4am

Nineteen hours a day, 9am to 4am, which on McLean Avenue is roughly average and anywhere else would be the headline. Live music Saturdays at eight, trivia Wednesdays at seven — a rare thing on this strip, where most rooms put the game on and let you get on with it. Sports screens and outdoor seating. No happy hour published and no prices published. Worth it for the Wednesday quiz if you want a reason to be here on a school night.

Tommy K’s

The pour people cross the street for, plus pool and darts · 850 McLean Ave, Yonkers $$$
No happy hour publishedabout $20–30 a head
HoursMon–Sat 10am–4am

The pint is the argument. Regulars single Tommy K’s out for the Guinness specifically, on a street where nobody else’s pour gets named, and the room backs it up: pool, darts, a team in the Bronx–Westchester league, and a tab that runs about twenty to thirty a head. Open 10am to 4am Monday to Saturday. The honest caveat: the Sunday opening time in every listing reads like a transcription error, so do not build a Sunday around it. No happy hour, and like everyone else here, no published price.

Durty Nelly’s

No cover, no dress code, karaoke when it comes round · 655 McLean Ave, Yonkers $$$
No happy hour publishedpool, darts, karaoke
Hours— not published

The southern end of the strip, past the main cluster, and the loosest room of the lot — pool table, dartboards, screens, no cover and no dress code. Karaoke comes round regularly and they book duos. Go here instead when the Donkey has a band on and you still want to hear the person next to you. The honest caveat: nobody publishes hours for it, so treat it as a walk-in and a look-in.

Woodlawn happy hour: FAQ

Is there actually a happy hour in Woodlawn?

One. John Mulligan’s Fireside Pub at 4272 Katonah Ave publishes a happy hour weekdays 5–7pm — but it does not publish the prices. Two McLean Avenue restaurants run fixed dinner windows: Rory Dolan’s Early Bird is $24.95 for three courses Mon–Thu 3:30–6pm, and McKeon’s runs 4–6pm the same nights. No other bar on either strip publishes a discounted window at all.

What is the cheapest bar in Woodlawn?

No bar on Katonah Avenue publishes a price, so there is no honest ranking. The Tavern on McLean at 986 McLean Ave is the only bar on either strip that prints what it charges: beer $6–$9, Jameson and Tito’s $9, wine $9–$10, cocktails $14. Kelly’s Pub on East 233rd and The Hideout Tavern are the rooms regulars name for cheap pints.

Which Woodlawn bar has the best Guinness?

Tommy K’s at 850 McLean Ave is the one regulars single out for the pour. Rambling House, Behan’s Public House and The Hideout Tavern all lead with Guinness on tap. None of them publishes a pint price — Katonah Avenue is the one strip in New York where we could not find a single published Guinness price.

Is Woodlawn in the Bronx or in Yonkers?

Both, depending on the side of the street. Katonah Avenue and East 233rd Street are Woodlawn Heights, the Bronx, ZIP 10470. McLean Avenue is the city line: the addresses in this guide numbered 641 to 996 McLean are Yonkers, Westchester County, ZIPs 10704 and 10705. It reads as one continuous strip of Irish bars and locals walk between them, which is why both are here.

How do I get to Woodlawn?

The 4 train ends at Woodlawn, and Katonah Avenue is a walk east from the station. Metro-North’s Harlem Line also stops at Woodlawn, on East 233rd Street near Webster Avenue. McLean Avenue is a further few blocks north, over the Yonkers line. Almost every bar here runs to 2am or 4am, so the last train home matters more than closing time does.

What has changed in Woodlawn recently?

More than any guide reflects. Keane’s became The Burren Public House in 2025 and took in the old Coachman’s Inn space next door. Lark’s Nest is now The Oakleaf. Aqueduct North is now Horse & Jockey. Moriarty’s on McLean is now The Tavern on McLean. Jimmy K’s and The Kitchen have closed. Most listings, including the Irish pub directories, still carry the old names.
