No happy hour — Bagel Hole is a no-frills Park Slope bagel institution. The move is a small, dense, crusty, chewy old-school bagel — and they famously won’t toast it.

Bagel Hole: Park Slope’s Old-School Bagel Institution

There’s no happy hour here — it’s a bagel shop — but Bagel Hole is a South Slope institution, a tiny hole-in-the-wall turning out some of the city’s most respected old-school bagels since 1985.

Run for decades by owner Phil Romanzi, its bagels are deliberately small, dense, crusty and chewy, made without the dough conditioners most modern shops use. The honest read: there’s no seating, service can be brusque, and weekend lines hit the street — but Eater calls it one of NYC’s finest.

What to Expect

No happy hour. The bagels are the point — old-school and made without conditioners — and the shop famously refuses to toast them, on the principle that a fresh bagel shouldn’t need it. Order the everything with lox or scallion cream cheese, or the whitefish salad. Long cash-only (some recent listings suggest cards now — confirm). Open daily 7am–4pm.

The Room

A tiny, no-seating storefront on 7th Ave between 12th and 13th in South Slope, with bodega-style juice fridges up front, near the 7th Ave F/G. Eater named it one of ‘NYC’s 22 Finest Bagels’; The Infatuation rates it 8.0/10. Crowd: Park Slope regulars and weekend lines.
