Casasalvo: An Upscale SoHo Italian Restaurant With a $20 Aperitivo Happy Hour
Casasalvo is Chef Salvo Lo Castro’s flagship SoHo restaurant — a Sicilian chef who cooked through luxury hotels and the Vatican before opening here in 2025 — and it’s one of the most visually striking rooms in the neighborhood. Tucked into 195 Spring Street, the space mixes a glowing gold-onyx bar, Italian walnut paneling and marble floors with citrus and olive trees lining an open terrace over the street. It’s the kind of place that feels expensive, which is exactly what makes the happy hour worth knowing about.
The food is upscale Italian and Mediterranean, ingredient-driven and exacting, but the smart entry point is the weekday aperitivo.
The Happy Hour
A flat-rate aperitivo, the way they do it in Sicily:
- Monday–Friday, 4:30–7pm
- $20 flat rate — an aperitif spritz plus a food spread
- Unhurried and generous, centered around the table rather than a rushed drink
- On Seated and inKind for up to 30% more off the check
The Drinks
Aperitivo spritzes anchor the happy hour, backed by a growing wine program overseen by Master Sommelier George Nicolas and a full cocktail list. The wine list is a point of pride and still expanding.
The Food
A curated exploration of Chef Salvo’s roots and travels — handmade pastas showcasing regional Italian traditions (one finished tableside in a wheel of cheese), fresh Mediterranean seafood like charred octopus and Dover sole, and prime cuts of meat, all driven by seasonal ingredients.
The Room
Lo Castro designed the interiors himself: Italian walnut, white marble, a glowing onyx bar, and lemon, olive and peach trees that bring a Mediterranean landscape indoors. The front room is intimate; the terrace sits above the bustle of Spring Street. Note the dress code — no shorts, athletic wear, open-toe shoes or baseball caps; smart casual is the move.
