Doris: Bed-Stuy’s Vinyl Bar With a Disco Ball and a Deal Worth Knowing

Doris is a neighborhood cocktail bar on Fulton Street in Bed-Stuy that earned its reputation the old-fashioned way: strong drinks, a generous happy hour, good music, and zero pretense. High ceilings, Southwestern-influenced décor, succulents, warm lighting — and out back, one of the better backyard patios in Brooklyn, with a ping pong table.

By 10pm the lights drop, a DJ fires up vinyl, and a disco ball starts spinning. The Infatuation has called it one of the best first-date bars in the city. The regulars call it Tuesday.

The Happy Hour

Happy hour runs every day, with an extended window on weekends:

  • Daily 5–8pm — weekday happy hour
  • Sat–Sun 1–8pm — seven hours of deal pricing
  • $5 drafts, plus $2 off well drinks, wine and cocktails.

That weekend 1–8pm stretch is the real find — seven hours of deal pricing makes Doris a legitimate early anchor for any Bed-Stuy day-into-night plan.

The Drinks

The cocktail menu leans agave — mezcal, tequila, citrus and bitters do most of the work, fitting the Southwestern room. Standouts at $11: the Margarita Ocho Ocho (Ocho plata, Cointreau, lime), El Supremo (Union mezcal, ginger, lime, bitters), and the Siesta (Tapatio, grapefruit, Campari). On draft: Gaffel Kölsch, Allagash White, Bitburger Pilsner, Pacifico and a rotating sour. The Rosa Peterson michelada ($7, or $10 with a tequila shot) tells you what kind of bar this is.

The Food

Doris isn’t a restaurant — the food is bar bites, not a full menu. The grilled cheese is the thing everyone mentions and a reliable late-night anchor. Come to drink; eat before you arrive or grab the cheese.

The Room

High-ceilinged and styled with a Southwestern streak, with limited seating by design — a standing-room, mingle-at-the-bar place. The backyard patio is the pressure valve: ping pong, fresh air, and a crowd happy to be outside. Around 10pm the DJ takes over and the disco ball comes on — a dance situation with no cover and no guest list.
