About Flex Mussels
Flex Mussels started in 2004 as a shack on Prince Edward Island, grew into a restaurant there, and opened on the Upper East Side in 2008 — the original NYC outpost from the women-owned Shapiro family. The current Third Avenue room is the spiritual home, a women-owned seafood spot direct-importing PEI mussels and shucking oysters to order.
The menu’s calling card is 23 varieties of mussels in international broths: Thai coconut curry, Caribbean jerk with Red Stripe, Mexican chipotle and chorizo, Dijon, Fra Diavolo, classic white wine, Parma cream. Each pot comes as a full entrée with bread for the broth — and the broth is the point.
