Speedy Romeo in Clinton Hill
Speedy Romeo is a wood-fired pizza restaurant in Clinton Hill, opened in 2012 by chef Justin Bazdarich and casting director Todd Feldman in a former auto-body shop. Everything runs through a hardwood-fired Italian oven, which is the whole identity of the place.
The signature is The Saint Louie, a square-cut St. Louis-style pie loaded with Provel cheese, sausage, and pickled chilis, a nod to Bazdarich’s St. Louis roots. Béchamel pies like the White Album and the clam-topped Casey Moore are critic favorites, and the kitchen also fires steaks, seafood, and a well-regarded burger. It holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand and works especially well for groups.
The Happy Hour
The drink deal here is an all-day affair every Monday rather than a traditional evening happy hour. Expect select drafts at $6, wines and spritz at $10, a $3 Mexican Coke, and $5 strawberry lemonade. Note the original Lower East Side branch has closed, so the Clinton Hill flagship is the one to visit.
The Room
Set in a converted auto-body garage, the room is casual and lively with the wood-fired oven as its centerpiece. It is comfortable for groups and families, and the energy stays upbeat.
