The Half Pint: Greenwich Village’s Beer Bar With a 7-Hour Happy Hour
The Half Pint has been a Greenwich Village pub since 2007, and at this point it’s a fixture — the kind of place you walk past 50 times before you finally walk in, and then you keep coming back. It’s a beer bar first (24 rotating drafts, an actual cask engine, an award-winning bottled list), a sports bar second, and a brunch spot on the weekends.
Attached to The Half Pint is Ernie’s, a separate-but-connected room themed around the 1940s–60s circus that operated at this same 76 W 3rd St address — same kitchen, same hours, slightly different vibe (quieter, more cocktail-forward). Most regulars treat the two rooms as one venue with two moods.
The Happy Hour
Happy hour runs noon to 7pm, seven days a week — a long window for the block. Nightly add-ons stack on top:
- Mondays — $5 burgers all night
- Tuesdays — trivia at 7pm, $5 handmade egg rolls
- Wine Down Wednesdays — $25 wine bottles, $5 crispy fish tacos
- Thursdays — Miller High Life buy-one-get-one
- The draft list rotates daily — every change is posted to Untappd in real time. Twenty-four taps plus a cask engine is a lot for the neighborhood, and the bottle list has won awards.
Bottomless brunch runs Saturday and Sunday 11am–3:30pm — $28 per person for 90 minutes of bottomless cocktails with an entrée.
Food
Pub food executed well — the kitchen is run by Chef Raul Espinosa under the Stout NYC Hospitality Group. Burgers, wings, loaded nachos, mac and cheese topped with burrata, cheese croquettes, anchovy salads, and the Bavarian Über Pretzel with sauerkraut. It reads like classic American bar food, but the plating and ingredients punch above the price. The breakfast nachos have a small but devoted following.
The Room
The bar is long, wood-heavy, lined with stools, and almost always has a game on — Rangers, Yankees, Mets, NBA Playoffs, Premier League, whatever’s happening. The Ernie’s room in the back is the move when the front gets loud: same menu and kitchen, but quieter, with a cocktail program that leans 1940s classics. There’s also a private party room that fits up to 130 — rare for the neighborhood, which is why it draws birthdays and networking events. Closest train is West 4th St, two minutes away; Washington Square Park is half a block north.
