- 17 verified rooms

The best drag in NYC right now is mostly free, and most guides price it as if it were not. The Stonewall Inn publishes ten named weekly shows and every one is no cover. Hardware runs half-price drinks 2–8pm daily with free drag nightly. Industry does 2-for-1 on everything from 5pm and a named show every night. Metropolitan in Williamsburg has a host on nearly every night, almost all free, and Albatross in Astoria runs two free shows every Saturday. The thing to know before you go: exactly one venue of seventeen publishes a tipping policy. At a no-cover room the tip bucket is how the performers get paid, so bring cash — and note that four of the rooms most guides still recommend, Barracuda among them, have closed.

Map: where these 17 spots are
Hell’s Kitchen and the West Village hold the institutions. Brooklyn publishes more of its programming than Manhattan does.

Free shows, and the happy hours before them
Five rooms with no cover and a real drink deal. More in best gay bars in NYC.
The Stonewall Inn
The only venue in this guide that publishes a full seven-night grid with start times, floors and hosts — and every single show on it is no cover. Ten named recurring weeklies across two floors: BINGO with Davida Jones on Mondays, piano bar Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 9pm, The Eight Ball Lounge with Danielle at 5pm Thursdays (the earliest published drag start time in the city), Thirst Trap with Egypt, karaoke Fridays, and three shows on Saturday alone — Show Time at 9pm, Dirty Pop at 10pm and The Kiki at 11pm. 21+, physical ID required, no exceptions. The honest caveat: it is a landmark, so it is also a tourist stop — it gets packed and the upstairs sightlines are what they are.
Hardware Bar On now
The cheapest published all-week deal of any drag room in Manhattan: half-price drinks seven days a week from 2pm to 8pm, with no cover charge on any of the nightly drag. Six hours a day, every day — nothing else in Hell’s Kitchen comes close on the combination. Named nights include Broadway Mondays, Rice and Beans on Tuesdays, Eurobop and Pier Pressure on Wednesdays and TV Pop on Thursdays, plus a Sunday drag brunch reported as Skinny Brunch with Jasmine Rice Labeija and Brita Filter. Doors 2pm daily. The honest caveat: nothing about the schedule is readable on Hardware’s own site — it is all flyer images with no times. The half-price window and the no-cover policy are the two things you can rely on.

Industry Bar On now
A four-hour 2-for-1 on every drink from 5pm, and then a named drag show every single night of the week — The Kizha Carr Show on Sundays, Spotlight Mondays, Star Search on Tuesdays, Pixie’s Big Adventure on Wednesdays, Queen with Brenda Dharling on Thursdays. Open daily 5pm to 4am, no cover published on any of it. Worth noting rather than asserting: Star Search was Barracuda Lounge’s signature show, described as the longest-running bar show in New York, and Industry’s Tuesday grid now carries the name. The honest caveat, and it is a real gap: the 2-for-1 ends at 9pm and the drag does not start until around 11pm. Come at five and drink cheap, or come at eleven and pay full price.
Club Cumming
The only venue in this guide that publishes a named drag king show on its own site: Drag King Bingo with Cunning Stunt, Mondays at 7pm — and in a category where kings are consistently under-programmed and under-listed, that is worth saying plainly. Every published weekly show here is free; Mondays in the Club with Lance Horne and Hunter Canning is billed “No cover… ever!” at 9:30pm, Drag Karaoke with Miss Behave runs Tuesdays at 9pm, and Make It with Brini Maxwell at 6pm on Tuesdays. 21+ on the shows that state one. The honest caveat: it is a small room and it fills, and the Tuesday craft night carries a two-drink minimum despite the free door.

Pieces Bar On now
Drag Wars on Mondays at 10pm, hosted by Shequida — one of the longest-running weekly drag competitions in New York, and NYCgo lists the cost as free. Around it: Snatched on Wednesdays, Jasmine Live on Thursdays, Frisky Fridays with Ruby Roo and Brita Filter. Drinks are $6 wells, beer and wine on weekdays until 8pm, and $6 margaritas, mimosas and bloody marys plus $8 Long Islands on weekends until 8pm. Doors 2pm daily. The honest caveat: Pieces posts its entire weekly lineup as flyer images, so no show times except Drag Wars are readable anywhere. Turn up around 10pm and expect packed, loud, standing-room-only. Bring cash for tips.
Drag brunch, and what it really costs
Three ticketed rooms — and one headline price that is not the price. See best bottomless brunch.
Lips NYC
The only drag room in the city that publishes everything — every show, every seating time, every package price, the deposit, the no-show fee and, uniquely, a tipping policy: “a 20% tip is added to all guest checks. This tip can be removed upon request.” Weekend brunch is $52 for brunch, unlimited drinks and the show, both days. Friday and Saturday dinner shows are $59; Sunday $46. Bitchy Bingo Wednesdays, Dining with the Divas Thursdays, Glamour Girlz Fridays. Minimum age 16 — the only sub-21 drag room verified here — with a hard 18+ cutoff from 8:30pm. The honest caveat: the package price is not the bill. Tax and the 20% land on top, and there is a $30 per guest no-show fee.
Lucky Cheng’s
The oldest name in New York drag dining, now on the fourth floor of a Times Square hotel rather than the East Village room people remember. Three published admission tiers — General $29, VIP $35, Diamond $89 — with a ticket required for every guest in the party. Weekend drag brunch runs Saturday and Sunday at 1pm, with bottomless mimosas referenced on the site. The honest caveat, and it is the one that catches people: $29 gets you through the door and nothing else — food and beverages are purchased separately on top. It is the cheapest published ticketed entry to a drag brunch in the city, which is a genuine thing, as long as you know it is an entry fee rather than a price.
Rise Bar
We are going to be blunt about this one, because the $6 headline is the single most misleading number in New York drag brunch. The OpenTable ticket is $6 per person for entry only. The venue then requires every patron to purchase an entree and a minimum of two drinks (non-alcoholic counts). Entrees are listed at $30 and drink packages at $29–$44. So the real floor is roughly $65–$80 a head before tax and tip, not six dollars. Seatings 12:15pm and 2:30pm both weekend days, 21+. The show itself is well regarded and the room is good — just budget the actual number, and do not let a booking platform set your expectations.
Brooklyn
Where more of the scene is, and where more of it is published. Pair with Williamsburg happy hours.
Metropolitan Bar On now
Brooklyn out-publishes Manhattan and this is the room that proves it: a named host on nearly every night, almost all free admission, plus a five-hour happy hour every single day, 3pm to 8pm. DRAGnet hosted by Merrie Cherry runs third Thursdays at 10pm, free — one of Brooklyn’s longest-running showcases. Metrosensual with Kandy Muse runs Saturdays at 10pm at $5–$10 depending on performer, the cheapest published cover in this guide. Plus Cakes, Queeraoke and Alotta Trivia. Nightly drink specials by day, from $2 PBR tall boys on Mondays. Always 21+. The honest caveat: the monthly rotation is the catch — DRAGnet is third Thursdays only, Straight Acting is first. Check which week you are in.
3 Dollar Bill
Brooklyn’s biggest queer nightclub and the home of Bushwig, which in 2026 runs Saturday 26 September from 4pm straight through to 4am Sunday, across 3 Dollar Bill, 9 Bob Note and The Yard. A huge dance area, outdoor seating, and a rotating calendar rather than a fixed weekly grid — The Aud Ball, CONFESSIONS, INFERNO, Dragistan, plus a recurring Thursday watch party at 7pm. INFERNO is the one with fully published pricing and it is worth quoting: “$25+, $30+ for cis folks. No one turned away for lack of funds”, in an accessible venue with audio description. The honest caveat: ticketed rather than walk-in, and the venue’s own event pages rarely show a price — you find it at the third-party checkout. Buy ahead for anything big.
The Rosemont On now
A six-hour happy hour on Saturday and Sunday, 3pm to 9pm (5pm to 9pm on weekdays) attached to a drag room with a genuinely large patio — which is rare in this category and makes it the best summer-afternoon option on this page. Open to 4am every night, 5pm weekdays and 3pm weekends. The programming is drag shows, live performances, DJ parties and karaoke. The honest caveat, and it is the whole planning problem: The Rosemont publishes its hours and its happy hour and nothing else — no show calendar, no cover, no times. Check Instagram the day you want to go, or treat it as a bar with a patio that sometimes has a show on.
Macri Park
The only late-night happy hour we found in this entire category: alongside Kray Karaoke with Jen Urban on Wednesdays (8pm–3am), the bar runs a 2am-to-4am happy hour with $5 Tito’s — at an hour when every other room in the city has stopped discounting. ShitKicker with Maddelynn Hatter runs Tuesdays at 10pm, Girl Im Shook every third Friday at $5, QUEERDO on fourth Thursdays with no cover, and Road House also with Maddelynn Hatter. Open 3pm–4am daily. The honest caveat, and please do this first: the bar’s own site publishes a live weekly schedule, but a Yelp listing carries a CLOSED marker from February 2026. Call before you go. We have not set a live badge on the late window because which side of midnight it falls on is unconfirmed.

Good Judy
The only drag room in this guide south of the Prospect Expressway, and that is the entire reason it earns a place: a queer bar in Park Slope running drag and karaoke without making anyone travel to Williamsburg or Manhattan for it. The venue describes itself plainly — a queer bar where everyone is welcome and everyone belongs — with high-energy drag shows or karaoke nights. Open Mon–Thu 5pm–2am, Fri 5pm–4am, Sat 3pm–4am, Sun 3pm–2am. The honest caveat, stated plainly: Good Judy publishes hours and a mission statement and no schedule whatsoever — no show names, no nights, no times, no cover. Check the venue’s Instagram before you commit the trip.

Institutions, competitions and Queens
Historic addresses, open-application pageants and two free Saturday shows. See best burlesque shows.
Playhouse Bar On now
Free drag shows all week, in the venue’s own words, with $6 well drinks, beer and wine on weekdays until 8pm and $6 margaritas, mimosas and bloody marys plus $8 Long Islands on weekends, 2 to 8pm. Doors 5pm Tuesday and Wednesday, 2pm Thursday to Sunday. An observation rather than a claim: Playhouse operates at 100 Seventh Avenue South — the same building number Boots & Saddle occupied when city marshals seized it in February 2018 — and dates itself to 2019. The venue makes no claim of succession; we are noting the address and the date. Two honest caveats: the lineup exists only as flyer images, so you cannot see who is on without Instagram, and it is dark on Mondays.
playhousebar.com · See our best gay bars in NYC
The Duplex On now
Two rooms and two price points in one building: a free piano bar downstairs and a ticketed Drag Room upstairs, open 7 days a week from 4pm to 4am. Happy hour is Monday through Thursday, 4 to 7pm: $8 well cocktails, $8 beer, $8 wine. Recurring nights include open-mic standup every Tuesday 7–9pm with sign-ups at 5pm, and Plasma Palooza every Wednesday at 10:30pm. The honest caveat, and it decides your budget: the upstairs ticket price is not published on the main site — you have to open the individual show listing. If you just want to be in the building with a drink and some singing, stay downstairs. That part is free.
theduplex.com · See our West Village happy hours
Albatross Bar On now
Two free live drag shows every Saturday — 8pm with rotating queens and 11pm with Sutton Lee Seymour — every single week, which is the most consistent free Saturday programming in Queens. Drag Bingo with Gilda Wabbit runs Tuesdays from 9pm with a cash prize and drink specials all night, Primetime with Jacklynn Hyde on Fridays, karaoke Mondays from 10pm. There is also Albatross IDOL, an in-house drag competition with a published $300 prize — a real, named entry point for new performers. Sunday bingo at 3:30pm with $5 mimosas and bloody marys from 1–6pm. The honest caveat: the standing weekday happy hour is one hour long, 5 to 6pm, not the four-hour window Hell’s Kitchen runs.
albatrossastoria.com · See our Astoria happy hours
ICON Astoria
ICONIC is a multi-season drag pageant with a standing open application portal — one of very few rooms in the city where a new performer can actually apply to get on a competition stage rather than waiting to be booked, and worth knowing for that reason alone. It returned for its second season in February under Michael Block and Lindsey Kay. Open Monday to Saturday 5pm–4am and Sundays from 3pm, with the venue stating that something is happening every day of the week and resident queens performing weekly. The honest caveat: ICON says drag runs weekly and then publishes no night-by-night schedule, no show times and no cover anywhere on its own site. Check Instagram, and do not assume the pageant is currently running.

NYC drag shows: FAQ
Do you have to pay for drag shows in NYC?
Usually not. Nine of the seventeen venues verified for this guide are free by their own wording: The Stonewall Inn, Club Cumming, Hardware, Playhouse, Albatross, Metropolitan, Macri Park, Industry and Pieces. Four are ticketed – Lips, Rise Bar, Lucky Cheng’s and 3 Dollar Bill – and The Duplex is both, with a free piano bar downstairs and a ticketed Drag Room upstairs. Three publish no cover policy at all, which is not the same as being free. Where a cover exists it is low: Metropolitan’s Metrosensual is $5-$10 depending on performer, and Macri Park’s Girl Im Shook is $5.
How much should you tip at a drag show?
Exactly one venue in seventeen publishes a policy – Lips, which states that a 20% tip is added to all guest checks and can be removed on request. Nobody else says a word, and that silence matters: at a no-cover room the tip bucket is how the performers are paid. Bring cash, in small bills, and tip each performer directly during their number rather than settling up at the end. If you are at one of the nine free rooms, budget for tips the way you would budget for a ticket somewhere else.
How much does drag brunch cost in NYC?
Between $29 and $52 in published admission, but read what the number covers. Lips is $52 for brunch, unlimited drinks and the show, both weekend days – the only genuinely all-in price. Lucky Cheng’s starts at $29, but that is entry only, with food and drink separate on top. Rise Bar’s $6 OpenTable ticket is the most misleading figure in the category: the venue requires every patron to buy an entree and a minimum of two drinks, with entrees at $30 and drink packages $29-$44, so the real floor is roughly $65-$80 a head before tax and tip.
Which NYC drag bars have closed?
Four rooms that guides still recommend. Barracuda Lounge in Chelsea closed permanently on 23 March 2025 – it was home to Star Search, described as the longest-running bar show in New York City. The Q closed on 27 March 2023. Therapy never reopened after March 2020, and Hush took the space in 2021. Boots & Saddle was seized by city marshals in February 2018 at 100A Seventh Avenue South. Playhouse Bar now operates at 100 Seventh Avenue South and dates itself to 2019, and Industry’s Tuesday grid now carries the Star Search name – both are observations about addresses and dates, not claims either venue makes.
Where is the best drag in Brooklyn?
Metropolitan Bar in Williamsburg publishes more drag programming than any room in Manhattan – a named host on nearly every night, almost all free admission, plus a happy hour every day from 3pm to 8pm. DRAGnet with Merrie Cherry runs third Thursdays at 10pm free; Metrosensual with Kandy Muse runs Saturdays at 10pm for $5-$10. 3 Dollar Bill in East Williamsburg is the biggest queer nightclub in the borough and the home of Bushwig, which in 2026 runs from 4pm on Saturday 26 September through to 4am the next morning across three venues.
