Happy Hour at Cubbyhole
Cubbyhole has anchored the corner of W 12th and W 4th in the West Village since 1994, and it is one of New York City’s last remaining lesbian bars. The tiny room is wallpapered in fish, flowers and paper lanterns hanging from the ceiling, and it is beloved as a safe, joyful space for the LGBTQ+ community, their friends and allies.
There is no food and no pretense, just a jukebox, a friendly crowd and a bartender who remembers you. It gets packed shoulder-to-shoulder on weekends, but the early hours are mellow and the drinks are some of the cheapest in the neighborhood.
The Happy Hour
Happy hour runs daily from 4 to 7pm, with $5 Dyke Beer and inexpensive well drinks. Cubbyhole leans cash-friendly and old-school, so specials rotate and it is worth asking the bartender what is on. The room is small, so the 4pm start is the sweet spot before the crowd builds.
The Room
A cramped, gloriously kitschy one-room dive draped in hanging decorations, with a jukebox and a handful of stools. Warm and welcoming early; standing-room-only and loud by night.
