Pineapple Club: A Two-Floor East Village Tiki Bar With $5 Wine and $1 Oyster Mondays
Pineapple Club is a two-floor tropical bar and restaurant on East 6th Street that commits all the way to the bit — hanging greenery, pink seating, pineapples wherever you look. The happy hour is short and it’s bar-only, but the prices are real: Tuesday through Thursday 5 to 6:30pm and Friday 4 to 6pm, wine and beer are $5 and the daiquiris are $8.
The catch is that window. Ninety minutes on weeknights, two hours on Friday, and you have to be standing at the bar — table service doesn’t count. Show up at 5:01 on a Tuesday and this is one of the better-value drinks in the neighborhood. Show up at 7 on a Friday and you’re paying full freight in a loud room. The other move, and arguably the better one, is Monday: $1 oysters from 5pm until close, with no 90-minute clock to beat.
The Happy Hour
Happy hour runs Tuesday through Thursday, 5 to 6:30pm, and Friday, 4 to 6pm, at the bar only. Wine by the glass is $5 across six pours — rosé, sauvignon blanc, prosecco, chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon, pinot noir. Founders lager and Founders IPA are $5. The daiquiris are $8: the straight rum daiquiri, the passionfruit-cranberry Crimes of Passion, and the grapefruit-pineapple Part-Time Lover. The vodka martini, dry or dirty, and the Mango No.5 with cinnamon and Tanduay rum are $10 each. Food is priced to match — $5 french fries ($1 more for seasoned), $10 wings in buffalo, BBQ, honey garlic or pineapple habanero, and a $10 burger with pepper jack and Russian dressing on a potato roll (GF bun +$4). One thing worth knowing: Monday is not a happy-hour day here. Monday is the oyster night — $1 each, $6 a half dozen, $12 a dozen, 5pm to close. Confirm current pricing with the bar before you go; the deal sheet shifts seasonally.
The Room
It sits on East 6th between Avenue A and Avenue B, far enough east that you’re walking past quiet tenement blocks and then there’s a tiki bar. Two floors, heavy on plants and pink upholstery, plus a sidewalk patio that fills first the moment the weather cooperates. The upstairs front is where it packs in — push toward the back and the room opens up enough to actually hear the person across from you. It gets loud after 9 on a weekend, which is either the point or the problem depending on why you came. Nearest trains are the F at 2nd Ave and the L at 1st Ave, both about a 10-minute walk, which is standard for this stretch of the East Village.
