Best New Bars in NYC
Eighteen bars that opened in 2026 — and the two that actually published a deal.
New bars rarely publish a happy hour — of eighteen 2026 openings, exactly one did, and FKA runs $1 oysters all day.
- 18 verified openings
- 2 with a published deal
- 5 on one avenue
- oysters from $1
The best new bars in NYC right now are FKA in the East Village ($1 oysters every day, no time window), Fireboat at Pier 6 (a decommissioned FDNY fireboat, walk-in only), Bar Chucho in Two Bridges (a James Beard finalist’s kitchen behind a room built for dancing), Only Child in Bed-Stuy ($16 cocktails and a $6 martini sidecar) and Bernie & Herb’s off Union Square ($9 wells, $13 classics, and the only 2026 opening publishing a happy hour window at all). New York opened roughly six notable bars a month this summer, and almost none of them published a price. Where a bar has, we have printed it. Where it has not, we say so instead of guessing.

The new bars with an actual deal
Two of eighteen. That is the whole category. More real deals in best bars in NYC.
FKA (Formerly Known As)
The best value of the whole 2026 opening class, and it is not close: $1 oysters every day, three East Coast varieties rotating, with no time window attached — they run through opening hours. Cocktails $15, beers $5–$6, and nothing on the food menu goes above $12. There is a pinball machine and a photo booth, and Good Clean Filth on tap. The honest caveat: two sources give slightly different beer prices ($5 on one, $6 on another) — check the board. Confirm the oyster deal is running before you commit your evening to it, because buck-a-shuck is the first thing a new bar quietly retires. More in our oyster happy hours guide.

Bernie & Herb’s
Of eighteen verified 2026 bar openings, this is the only one that publishes a happy hour window at all: 2pm to 7pm, with discounted pricing off a standing menu of $9 well liquor and $13 classic cocktails — which is already Union Square’s cheapest by some distance before the discount. It is run by former 169 Bar staff and priced like it: Nathan’s hot dogs, Christmas lights strung round fake palms, a shark on the wall, one block off the square. The honest caveat: the days are not published, only the window. Confirm with the bar before you treat 2–7pm as a seven-day proposition, because we are not going to print days nobody has stated.

Chamber
A second-floor Midtown cocktail bar with a DJ booth and karaoke alongside the drinks program, which in this part of the city is a more useful combination than it sounds — there is very little between the after-work hotel bars and the Koreatown karaoke rooms. The honest caveat, and it is the reason this sits third: the openings coverage says it runs a happy hour and then publishes no days, no times and no prices. We are not going to invent them. Call before you go if the deal is the point. If you want a published Midtown window instead, our Midtown happy hours guide has the ones we can stand behind.

Keepers
A 1970s-leaning room built on negronis and classic cocktails, with a thin-crust pizza program you eat standing up — drinks led by Ricky Dolinsky, pizza curated by Louis Tomczak. It is walk-ins only, no reservations, and open Wednesday through Sunday. The honest caveat and the local move in one sentence: a West Village bar with this much pedigree and no reservation book will have a wait on a Friday, so go Wednesday or Thursday and you walk in. Closed Monday and Tuesday, which catches people. More of the neighborhood in our West Village happy hours guide.

Bar Chucho
The best-value drinking of the 2026 class outside FKA, and the reason is the kitchen: Fidel Caballero and Sofia Ostos of Corima — Caballero a former Contra chef and a James Beard finalist for Best Chef: New York State — are making carne asada-style burgers and a mushroom gringa behind a red-lit bar, and the cocktails are cheap for the quality. Open Tuesday to Sunday from 5pm to 2am. The honest caveat, so you pick the right night: the room has a serious sound system and space to dance, and it is used. This is not a place for a conversation after 10pm. Closed Mondays.

Dram Central
The pedigree here is the story: this comes from the people behind Brandy Library in Tribeca and Copper & Oak on the Lower East Side, two of the most serious brown-spirits rooms in the city — and they have put the third one a block from Grand Central, which is either the most convenient bar in New York or the most dangerous, depending on your commute. It is built around an extensive aged-spirits list rather than a cocktail menu. The honest caveat, stated plainly: no prices are published yet, and a whisky list this deep is never cheap. Go in expecting to pay for the pour you order, and order deliberately.

Bar Etienne
From the Bar Valentina team, and built entirely on riffs: the two drinks people are talking about are a chocolate negroni and a tomato martini, which is exactly the kind of thing that either works completely or does not work at all, and the early reports say it works. The honest caveat, and we would rather say it than pad this entry: it opened in August 2026 and is roughly two weeks old as of this update. Days, hours and prices are all unpublished. Treat this as a tip rather than a plan — go, but check it is open first. Our best martinis in NYC guide has the established version of that order.

Primrose
A Chelsea cocktail bar operating with a companion lounge, Foxglove, in the same building — two rooms and two moods at one address, which is a genuinely useful shape for a night that starts at one temperature and ends at another. The honest verdict, and it is why this is last in the section: this is a brand-new opening with almost no public record. Ownership, hours and prices are all still unpublished, and we could not verify a drinks list. It is on this page because it exists and it is new, not because we can tell you what it costs. Check before you make it the plan rather than the detour.

The East Village cluster
Five notable openings within a few blocks of lower Second Ave. See East Village happy hours.
Wild Horses
The kitchen runs until 2am Thursday through Sunday, which puts this in a very small group among the 2026 openings — almost nobody new is serving food that late, and that alone makes it worth knowing. It comes from the team behind Niagara and Lucinda’s, two long-running East Village bars, which is a different thing from a hospitality group opening its fourth concept. The honest caveat: it is a live-music room, so the volume depends entirely on who is playing. Check the calendar before you pick it for a conversation. More late food in our best late-night food guide.

Ninth Ward
New Orleans-inspired cocktails and a full kitchen — it runs as a bar and a restaurant rather than a drinks-only room, which matters on a street where most of the new openings expect you to have eaten already. The context worth knowing: this sits on the single densest stretch of 2026 bar openings in New York. Bar Monto is at 61 Second Ave, FKA at 221, Wild Horses around the corner on the Bowery — five notable openings within a few blocks in three months. The honest caveat: no drink prices or hours published yet. Walk the avenue and pick by what looks busy.

Bar Monto
An upscale Irish bar on lower Second Avenue rather than another cocktail den, which on this stretch is genuinely the contrarian move — the pub format done properly, with a room built for staying in rather than passing through. The honest caveat, and it is the one to hold in mind with this whole category: “upscale Irish bar” usually means pub format at cocktail-bar prices, and no prices are published. Check the board before you settle in for the night. If you want the established version of this on the same island, our best Irish bars in NYC guide is the place to start.

Brooklyn openings
A boat, a raw bar and a shotski. More in best new restaurants in NYC.
Fireboat
The most interesting opening of the year, and it is not a building: a decommissioned FDNY fireboat moored at Pier 6, open-air seating, East River and skyline in front of you, cocktails at sunset. It comes from the Grand Banks team — who also ran Pilot, the 1924 schooner that sank in Red Hook on 3 July 2026 — which makes Fireboat the effective successor at the same pier. The honest caveat, twice: walk-in only, no reservations, and it is a boat with open-air seating and no indoor fallback. In the rain this is not a plan. Check the forecast, then go early.

Zig Zag Oyster Bar
The pedigree is about as good as it gets in Brooklyn: this comes from the group behind Hart’s, Cervo’s, The Fly, Eel Bar and Minnow, and the menu runs to seafood towers, lobster salad and peel-and-eat shrimp with a proper cocktail and wine list behind it. The honest caveat, stated so you do not get caught: a raw bar from this group will not be cheap, no prices are published yet, and “oyster bar” is not the same as an oyster deal — for those, see our oyster happy hours guide. Note also that listings disagree on the neighborhood; 406 Prospect Place sits on the Prospect Heights side.

Only Child
One of very few 2026 openings publishing actual numbers: cocktails $16, wine by the glass from $13, and — the detail that tells you they know what they are doing — a martini with a $6 sidecar option, which is the single best-value add-on in this whole guide. From the team behind nearby Frog wine bar, open to 2am at weekends. The honest caveat, because reviewers keep saying it and they are right: the room is almost too dark for a first date. That is fine for a third date or a solo drink and bad if you want to read a menu or see who you came with. Sit near the front.
See our Bed-Stuy happy hours
Dokidoki
The only 2026 opening with a genuinely unusual concept rather than a format revival: Caribbean-Japanese, Latin music, tropical drinks rimmed in furikake, and a cocktail list built deliberately low-ABV — which means you can drink through the menu and still function the next morning, and almost nobody is building bars that way. From Christian Suzuki-Orellana, open since 2 July. The honest caveat, and it is not a criticism: low-ABV is the entire point. If you want a strong drink this is the wrong room, and no prices are published yet. More of the neighborhood in our Williamsburg happy hours guide.
See our Williamsburg happy hours
Titan
A Dumbo cantina whose cocktail program is run by Ivy Mix, co-owner of Leyenda in Cobble Hill — which means the agave credentials here are the real thing rather than a menu with mezcal on it. It is a collaboration between Los Burritos Juarez and Whoopsie Daisy, and one of very few notable 2026 openings in Dumbo, a neighborhood that badly trails Williamsburg and Gowanus on new-bar volume. The honest caveat: no published prices, and Dumbo pricing is Dumbo pricing. Budget accordingly, and if you want the cheaper version of this drink our best tacos in NYC guide has the taquerias.

Hidden Rivers
From the owners of Smith & Vine, the Smith Street wine shop, and built around craft beer rather than a cocktail list — which, with a backyard attached, makes it exactly the kind of room a neighborhood needs and nobody writes about. The honest verdict, and we mean it as a compliment: this is a neighborhood bar, not a destination. Go because you live nearby or because you are already in Gowanus. The honest caveat: the backyard is the whole appeal between now and October, and no prices or hours are published yet — it is a different bar in February. More outdoor options in our best outdoor bars guide.

Wolfpup Bar
The least self-serious bar to open in New York this year, and after a summer of tomato martinis and low-ABV furikake rims that is genuinely welcome: neon lighting, a shotski, and no further explanation offered. The reason it earns a place here is geographic. It is one of very few 2026 openings east of Flatbush Avenue — the summer’s Brooklyn openings clustered almost entirely in Gowanus, Prospect Heights, Williamsburg and Bushwick, and Prospect Lefferts Gardens got one. The honest caveat: no published prices, hours or ownership. This one is thinly documented; call before you cross the borough for it.

New NYC bars: FAQ
What are the best new bars in NYC in 2026?
FKA in the East Village for value – $1 oysters every day with no time window and nothing on the food menu above $12. Fireboat at Pier 6 for the room – a decommissioned FDNY fireboat with open-air seating over the East River. Bar Chucho in Two Bridges for the food, from a James Beard finalist. Only Child in Bed-Stuy for the $6 martini sidecar. Keepers in the West Village for negronis, walk-ins only, Wednesday to Sunday. Dokidoki in Williamsburg is the most original concept of the class – low-ABV Caribbean-Japanese drinks with furikake rims.
Do any new NYC bars have a happy hour?
Barely. Of eighteen verified 2026 openings, exactly one publishes a happy hour window: Bernie & Herb’s at 28 E 16th Street, 2pm to 7pm, off a standing menu of $9 well liquor and $13 classic cocktails – though the days it runs are not published, so confirm with the bar. FKA runs $1 oysters daily with no time window attached, which functions as an all-day deal. Chamber in Midtown is reported to run a happy hour but publishes no days, times or prices.
Where did the most new bars open in NYC this year?
Lower Second Avenue in the East Village, by a distance: FKA at 221, Bar Monto at 61, Ninth Ward at 180, Wild Horses around the corner at 327 Bowery and Limo Bar at 33 Avenue B all landed within a few blocks between June and August 2026. In Brooklyn the openings concentrated in Gowanus, Prospect Heights, Williamsburg and Bushwick – Wolfpup in Prospect Lefferts Gardens is one of very few east of Flatbush Avenue.
What replaced Pilot at Brooklyn Bridge Park?
Fireboat, which opened at Pier 6 in June 2026 – a decommissioned FDNY fireboat with open-air seating, from the same Grand Banks team that ran Pilot. Pilot, the 1924 schooner, sank overnight in Red Hook’s Henry Street Basin on 3 July 2026 with no one aboard. Fireboat is walk-in only with no reservations and no indoor fallback, so check the weather before you go.
How many new bars open in NYC each month?
Roughly six notable ones. The Infatuation’s live openings guide logged more than 18 new bars, cocktail bars and wine bars across June, July and August 2026 alone. The practical consequence for anyone reading a list like this: most of them have published no prices and no hours in their first month, so treat a brand-new opening as a tip rather than a plan, and call before you travel.
Last updated: August 2026. Prices and hours change – confirm with the venue before you go. Spot something out of date? Let us know.
