Best Private Dining Rooms
in NYC
18 rooms verified. Only two publish a price. Here is what everybody else is hiding.
Private rooms do not run happy hours — but Insa’s karaoke rooms are half price on Wednesday nights, and that is a real one.
- 18 venues verified

- from $80/hour
- to $20K/hour
The best private dining rooms in NYC right now are Roscioli’s wine cellar (14–20), Gramercy Tavern’s Private Dining Room (20), Katz’s Marty’s Room (40 seated, $1.5K–$3K an hour), Fraunces Tavern’s six rooms (24 to 120) and Insa’s karaoke rooms ($80 an hour, half price Wednesdays). Here is the thing nobody tells you: of 18 venues verified for this guide, exactly two publish a dollar figure on their own site. Capacity is public everywhere; price is behind an inquiry form almost everywhere. So this guide prints the capacity the venue publishes, prints the price where one exists, and says “not published” the rest of the time rather than guessing at a number you will be quoted anyway.

Private rooms for 8 to 20
At this size the room is almost always a named wine cellar rather than a banquet space. Pair with best date night restaurants.
Roscioli NYC
The best-shaped room in this size bracket. The Wine Cellar takes 14 to 20, the street-level Alimentari seats 30 (or hosts up to 40), and the downstairs Dining Room takes 35 to 50 — and the Dining Room can be booked with optional access to the adjoining cellar, so a 50-plus night is one booking rather than two venues. The local move: if your headcount is drifting up from 14, ask for the Dining Room plus cellar access rather than moving venue. The honest caveat: capacities are published, prices are not, and the whole thing runs through an embedded booking form rather than a person. Also closed Mondays — there is no Monday private event here.
Gramercy Tavern
The Union Square Hospitality flagship, and the room most event planners name first: up to 20 guests for lunch and dinner, daily, with a full-restaurant buyout published at 120 seated with space for cocktails. There is a downloadable event kit and an inquiry form. What is not there: no food-and-beverage minimum and no room fee published anywhere on the page — which, for a room in this price bracket, is the number you most need before you can plan. The honest caveat: the private dining page was still surfacing availability copy referencing August–October 2025 when we checked in August 2026, so treat every term on it as needing re-confirmation.
L’Artusi
The most flexible room in the bracket: the Private Wine Room holds 14, and the Upstairs Mezzanine it attaches to holds 55 — the entire mezzanine level can be taken as one space, so the same booking scales from an intimate dinner to a party. The separate L’Artusi Supper Club at 105 Christopher Street runs 28 seated / 35 standing. The honest caveat, and it is the cleanest example on this page: the venue states verbatim that food and beverage minimums apply and to contact them for details. So they confirm a minimum exists and publish no number you could budget against. Booking is a Tripleseat form.

Vinegar Hill House
Two genuinely different rooms, which is rare at this size. The Fireside Room seats 16 one flight below the dining room and has a working fireplace in the colder months. The Carriage House is fully private and two-story: 32 seated, 45 standing. A full buyout is 60. The thing to know before you book: the Garden is sold as a semi-private half-garden prix fixe — it is not a closed room, and rain contingency moves garden events into the Fireside Room, which means your closed-door option can get double-booked by the weather. If you need an actual door, ask for Fireside or the Carriage House by name. No minimum or room fee published.

Katz’s Delicatessen
The most transparent private-events page we found in this entire research pass, and it is a deli. Three rooms, each with seated and standing capacity and a price: Marty’s Room 40 seated / 65 standing at $1.5K–$3K per hour; The Ludlow Room 64 seated / 100 standing at $3K–$5K per hour; a full-store buyout 280 seated / 475 standing at $17K–$20K per hour. Terms are published too: 72 hours’ notice minimum, 50% deposit to hold the date. The honest caveat: those are ranges, not fixed prices, and food and drink is quoted on top — so the hourly figure is a floor, not the bill.
Keens Steakhouse
Four rooms, all named, all published with capacity: the Lillie Langtry Room (25), the Bullmoose Room (35), the Lincoln Room (60) and the Lambs Room (100), with house-wide capacity up to 300. The local move: skip the form. Keens runs a dedicated banquet line at (212) 268-5056 and a banquets inbox — you will get a human and a real answer faster than any Tripleseat request on this page. The honest caveat: no per-person price, no minimum, no room fee published, and the desktop private-events URL was throwing a redirect loop when we checked on 19 August 2026. The mobile version of the page loaded fine. More steak in our best steakhouses guide.
Fraunces Tavern
The widest published room range downtown, in one building. Six bookable spaces: the Washington Room (24), the Wine Room (25), the Whiskey Bar (30), the Piano Bar Upstairs (75, with live performers on request), Lafayette’s Hideout (85) and the Bissell Room (120). If your headcount moves, you move rooms rather than venues. Read the wording on the Wine Room — the venue describes it as having semi-private charm and a lively atmosphere, which is a polite way of saying it is not a closed room. The honest caveat: no minimum or room fee for any of the six, and no seated-versus-standing split, which is exactly the ambiguity that bites you at a reception.

Uva
One room, one number: the venue publishes plainly that the room fits up to 35 people, and that the private space is available 363 days a year — which on the Upper East Side, where private rooms are thin on the ground, is the actual selling point. Dedicated events inbox, dedicated phone line. The honest caveat: no seated-versus-standing breakdown and no minimum published, so a 35-person cocktail party and a 35-person seated dinner get quoted off the same conversation, and those are very different rooms. Ask which one 35 means before you commit. More on the neighborhood in our Upper East Side happy hours guide.

Rooms for 50 and up
Buyouts, beer halls and production rooms. More big-group options in best bars in NYC.
House of Yes
The one on this page that is actually built for events rather than adapted for them. Four customizable spaces with an overall range of 50 to 750, plus the Onyx Room at up to 220. The production is in-house and published in detail: state-of-the-art sound and lighting, house DJs, a dedicated production team, and aerial, contortion and fire performers on the roster. There is a full kitchen on site with an outside-catering option. The honest caveat: no rental fee or minimum published anywhere, and no seated capacities at all — this is a standing, production-led room. If you want people at tables eating a plated dinner, book somewhere else.
Radegast Hall & Biergarten
The most genuinely self-contained large room in this guide, and the detail that proves it: the Bier Haus (125) has its own separate entrance, bar and restrooms. That is a real private space, not a roped-off end of a beer hall — which is what most 100-cap Brooklyn bookings actually turn out to be. The Main Hall runs 200–300, inclusive of the front bar and garden. The honest caveat: those numbers are almost certainly standing beer-hall capacities. Nothing on the site states a seated count for either space, and no minimum or rental fee is published. More of the neighborhood in our Williamsburg happy hours guide.

Brooklyn Bowl
The amenity list is the pitch and it is a strong one: 16 bowling lanes, two fully stocked bars, food by Blue Ribbon, full concert sound and lighting, 13 screens for digital branding. If you want an event where people do something rather than stand and drink, this is the room. The honest caveat, and it is the one that will actually change your plan: the venue is closed Monday through Wednesday under normal operations — which is exactly when a company weeknight party wants to happen. Neither capacity nor pricing is published; every number comes back through one of two Tripleseat forms.

Slate NY
16,000 square feet over two levels, groups up to 1,000, and seven named spaces — Lobby Lounge, Main Lounge, West Lounge, East Lounge, VIP Room, Bowling Lounge and Lower Level — plus pool tables and ping pong. On paper it is the most configurable big room in Manhattan. The honest verdict: seven named rooms and not a single published capacity or price between them, which makes planning impossible without a phone call. The caveat that catches people: the venue is 21+ during normal operating hours and enforces a published dress code — no sweatpants, tracksuits, sportswear, jerseys, slippers, slides or UGGs — and that applies to your guests, not just the general public.

The cheap, characterful rooms
Private does not have to mean $3,000. See also best cheap eats in NYC.
Insa On now
The cheapest verifiable private room in this guide, and it is not close. Five themed karaoke rooms: $80 per hour for the small room (up to 10 guests) and $200 per hour for the large one (up to 20). And on Wednesdays from 5:30pm to midnight the rooms are half price — $40 an hour for a private room in Brooklyn, which is less than a round of cocktails. The honest caveat, because the sticker is not the bill: a 20% gratuity is added automatically to every karaoke reservation, Friday and Saturday force a two-hour minimum booking, and the published damage schedule is real money. Book on OpenTable through the venue site.

Space Karaoke Bar & Lounge
Eleventh floor on 32nd Street, rooms the venue describes as sized for small crews up to 30-plus guests, buyouts available, and open seven days until 3am or later — which makes this the after-party room rather than the party room. The honest caveat: three package tiers are named — Gold, Platinum, VIP Diamond — and not one of them carries a price. The FAQ confirms hourly rooms are available without a package and then declines to say what an hour costs. You are calling for a number. Book through the venue’s own ordering site or the events line. Kashkaval Garden
Trading since 2004, which in Hell’s Kitchen counts for something: a mezze and fondue bar with a back garden, private and semi-private dining, and full buyouts. The kitchen runs to midnight Thursday through Saturday, so this is a legitimate late option for a group that wants to eat rather than just drink. The honest caveat, stated plainly: nothing about the room is published. No capacity, no per-person price, no minimum, and the events link redirects straight to a Google Form — there is no page to read before you commit to a conversation. That is a lot of trust to extend a room you cannot see. More nearby in our Hell’s Kitchen happy hours guide.
Office holiday parties
December sells on availability, not price — book in September. More in Christmas bars in NYC.
Ulysses Folk House
If your office is below Chambers Street, this is the room you end up in, and there are worse fates. The Music Room holds 150 standing; the Large Table takes parties from 8 and up and seats 70, so it scales from a team dinner to a long table. Open until 4:00am seven nights, and part of Harry’s Restaurant Group alongside Harry’s, Harry’s Side Bar and Adrienne’s Pizza Bar — all within a block, which is a genuine plan-B if your date is gone. The honest caveat: no minimum or room fee published, and December on Stone Street sells on availability, not on price. Book early or book elsewhere.
230 Fifth Rooftop
The December corporate default, and the numbers explain why: 33,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space, open all year, seven days a week, with the Empire State Building in the frame. The AV is published in unusual detail — DJ equipment, projectors, screens, TVs, wireless microphones, podium and staging — and the AV request form carries a Private Room, Indoors Only option, which confirms a genuinely enclosed room exists behind the rooftop photos. It is already selling New Year’s Eve 2027. The honest caveat: four spaces pictured, none named with a capacity, and no minimum published — for a December rooftop that is the one field that matters most.
230-fifth.com · See our best rooftop bars in NYC
Guastavino’s
The most impressive room on this page, full stop: over 7,000 square feet of landmarked vaulted tile under the Queensboro Bridge, a designated New York City Interior Landmark, available exclusively for private events — there is no walk-in restaurant here at all. Published floor plans are labelled with guest counts from 200 to 550. The honest caveat, and you need it before December: their own website currently says the inquiry forms are not functioning and to call 212-980-2711 directly. So do that. And the 200–550 figures are floor-plan labels rather than published capacities, so confirm the real maximum for your layout on the phone rather than assuming it.
NYC private dining: FAQ
How much does a private dining room cost in NYC?
Almost nobody publishes it. Of 18 venues verified for this guide in August 2026, only two put a dollar figure on their own site. Katz’s Delicatessen prices by the hour – $1.5K-$3K for Marty’s Room (40 seated), $3K-$5K for The Ludlow Room (64 seated) and $17K-$20K for a full-store buyout – and Insa in Gowanus charges $80 an hour for a karaoke room holding up to 10 and $200 an hour for one holding up to 20. Everywhere else, including Keens, Gramercy Tavern, Fraunces Tavern, Roscioli and L’Artusi, the number comes back through an inquiry form.
What is a food and beverage minimum, and do NYC venues charge one?
It is a floor on what your group must spend on food and drink for the room to be yours – hit it and the room is effectively free, miss it and you pay the difference. Most NYC private rooms use one. L’Artusi is the clearest published example: its private dining page states that food and beverage minimums apply and to contact them for details, confirming a minimum exists while publishing no figure. A separate room-rental fee stacked on top of a minimum is not the norm here; across every official private-events page checked for this guide, not one published a standalone room fee alongside a minimum.
What is the cheapest private room in NYC?
Insa in Gowanus, at $80 an hour for a karaoke room holding up to 10 guests, or $200 an hour for one holding up to 20 – and the rooms are half price on Wednesdays from 5:30pm to midnight, which brings the small room to roughly $40 an hour. Two things to budget for: a 20% gratuity is added automatically to every karaoke reservation, and Friday and Saturday bookings carry a two-hour minimum.
Where can I hold a private party for 100 people in NYC?
Keens Steakhouse’s Lambs Room takes 100 seated, Fraunces Tavern’s Bissell Room takes 120, Katz’s Ludlow Room takes 64 seated or 100 standing, and Radegast Hall’s Bier Haus holds 125 with its own separate entrance, bar and restrooms. For larger again, House of Yes runs 50 to 750 across four spaces and Slate NY publishes groups of up to 1,000 across 16,000 square feet. Standing capacity runs materially higher than seated wherever both are published, so confirm which number you are being quoted.
When should I book an office holiday party in NYC?
September, and earlier for a single-room venue. Places with exactly one large space have exactly one date per night to sell in December – Guastavino’s single 7,000+ sq ft hall, Ulysses’ 150-standing Music Room on Stone Street and House of Yes all fall into that category. Check the booking path too: Guastavino’s own site currently says its inquiry forms are not functioning and to call 212-980-2711 directly, which is not something you want to discover in late November.
