Flagship Brewing Company: A Staten Island Craft Brewery a Short Walk From the Ferry
Flagship sits at 40 Minthorne Street in Tompkinsville — roughly a 10-to-15-minute walk from the Staten Island Ferry terminal, right across from the Tompkinsville train station. It’s one of NYC’s independent breweries, and the taproom is a destination in its own right: a spacious, woodwork-filled room pouring 12 house beers, dog-friendly and family-friendly, with sidewalk seating outside.
It’s the kind of place ferry-riders stumble into and end up staying at — reviewers routinely say they wish they’d budgeted more time and that the beer beat anything they found back in Manhattan.
The Taproom
Flat pricing, sampled best in a flight:
- 12 beers on tap — American Pale Ale, Dark Mild, Kölsch, IPAs, a blood orange, a stout, and rotating brews
- Flights and paddles — the move for sampling the range (called some of the best paddles in NYC)
- Growlers and cans to-go from the bar
- Not a beer person? There are cocktails, frozen cocktails, and Fort Hamilton liquor too
- Pints around $7 — better value and quality than most of what’s across the harbor
The Beer
The house range is the draw — the Kölsch, the Pale Ale and the hoppier IPAs get singled out, and the staff genuinely know their stock and will steer you to the right pour without overhyping it. Twelve taps means there’s range whether you want something crisp and light or dark and full.
Food & Entertainment
There’s no full kitchen — you’re welcome to order in from any local restaurant (an exclusive food menu is in the works). Beyond the beer there are live bands some nights, a “Geeks Who Drink” pub quiz, board games, and an industrial-rustic room with plenty of woodwork. It’s family-friendly (kids welcome before 9pm) and dog-friendly.
The Room
About 3,000–3,200 square feet of picnic tables, high-tops, and lounge areas around a big bar, with NY-made products throughout and a stretch of sidewalk seating out front. It’s an easy, friendly stop to build a Staten Island ferry day around.
