New York City / Breweries
Best Breweries in NYC
Seventeen taprooms still standing after a brutal year — with the deals, the kitchens and the closing times.
Three of these run a published happy hour — KCBC at $7 pours Mon–Thu, Sound + Fury 3–7pm weekdays, Sixpoint $5 drafts all day Saturday.
- 17 open taprooms
- 3 published happy hours
- beer from $4
- 4 closed in 2025
The best breweries in NYC right now are Eckhart in Bushwick (the city’s first lager-focused brewery, and the only taproom publishing a full price list — a $4 mliko, $9 for a half-litre), KCBC up the road ($7 pours Mon–Thu, BYO food welcome), Grimm in East Williamsburg (foeder sours and New Haven-style pizza), Fifth Hammer in LIC (open to 1am at weekends) and Sound + Fury downtown (a four-hour weekday happy hour and an actual kitchen). Two practical things decide most brewery trips. First, whether there is a kitchen — most of these have none. Second, the closing time: Transmitter locks up at 8pm while Fifth Hammer runs to 1am. Both are on every card below.

Cheapest pours and real happy hours
Four taprooms that publish a number. More deals in best bars in NYC.
Eckhart Beer Co.
The only brewery taproom verified for this guide that publishes a full price list on its own site, which after eighteen of these is genuinely disorienting: 0.3L $7, 0.5L $9, mliko $4, premium pours $8–$11. The $4 mliko — the Czech all-foam pour — is the cheapest published beer at any brewery taproom in New York right now, and it is the thing to order first. Opened September 2025 as New York City’s first lager-focused brewery and named Brew York’s brewery opening of the year. Order the helles or the dark lager. The honest caveat: closed Mondays and Tuesdays, and it is a lager house — if you came for a triple IPA you are in the wrong room.

Kings County Brewers Collective On now
The cheapest recurring brewery happy-hour pour verified anywhere in the city: $7 select pours, 4–7pm, Monday to Thursday, every week, published by the brewery itself. Add $10 flights every Wednesday and the fact that BYO food is explicitly welcome, and this becomes one of the cheapest genuinely good nights out in Bushwick — bring a pizza, pay $7 a beer, sit down. KCBC is also the first brick-and-mortar production brewery to operate in Bushwick in more than forty years, about two blocks from the Jefferson St L. The honest caveat: no kitchen — bring food, or gamble on whichever pop-up is in that night.

Sound + Fury Brewing On now
Four hours, Monday to Friday, 3 to 7pm — the longest recurring brewery happy-hour window verified in this research, and it covers wine, margaritas and cocktails as well as the house beer, which almost no brewery bothers with. The room is roughly 6,000 square feet, one of the largest brewery spaces in the city, with a scratch kitchen and Saturday brunch — so unlike most of this page you can make a full meal of it. Two minutes from Hoyt-Schermerhorn and Jay St-MetroTech. The honest caveat, and ask before you commit to a round: the brewery publishes the window but not what it actually knocks off the price.

Sixpoint Taproom, Brookfield Place On now
$5 select drafts and a $10 house cocktail, all day Saturday — published by the taproom, and in a borough with almost no brewery scene left that makes this the best-value brewery drinking in Manhattan by default. There is a separate Late Nite Happy Hour Mon–Sat 8–10pm and Sun 6–8pm with discounts on select food. With Torch & Crown gone, this is one of very few brewery-branded taprooms left in the borough. The honest caveat, stated plainly: this is a taproom inside a mall at Brookfield Place and nothing is brewed here. Go for the $5 Saturday drafts and the river, not the atmosphere. More nearby in our FiDi happy hours guide.

Other Half Brewing (Centre St)
Twenty beers on draft plus wine, cider and soft drinks, with cans and bottles to go, two blocks from Smith-9th Sts. The local move here is a strategy rather than an order: the list turns over constantly, so ask what went on the board this week and drink that rather than turning up hunting a release you read about — you will be disappointed roughly half the time. Other Half also runs taprooms at Domino Park and Rockefeller Center. Wheelchair accessible; leashed, well-behaved dogs welcome. The honest caveat: no kitchen and no permanent food truck. Bring food or order delivery, or you are drinking high-ABV IPAs on an empty stomach, which ends how you think it does.
Wild East Brewing Co.
Twenty-plus beers brewed on premise, which after the recent wave of contract-brewing deals is worth saying out loud, across Czech-style lagers, IPAs, farmhouse ales and sours — and the Czech-style lagers are the order, not the IPAs. New York State wine, spirits, cocktails, cider, canned cocktails, NA beer and mocktails also poured, so this works for a group that is not all drinking beer. Discounted garage parking at 365 Bond St, street parking usually available, and two brewery cats named Patience and Fortitude. The honest caveat: no kitchen, and the food pop-up schedule moves week to week — check Instagram before you plan dinner around it.

Brooklyn Brewery
Read this before you plan the afternoon, because it is the thing most guides have not updated: the free-tour era is over. Tours are paused ahead of a move to a new building and have been replaced by paid 45-minute guided tastings with a two-ticket minimum. So turn up expecting a tasting room, not a factory walk-through. What is there is still worth it: Brooklyn Lager, the amber lager they have made since 1988, alongside experimental small-batch releases you cannot get outside the room. Dogs on leash and accompanied kids are both explicitly welcome, which is rarer than it sounds. The honest caveat: no kitchen — beer, wine and cider only.

Transmitter Brewing
Farmhouse and mixed-fermentation ales inside Building 77 at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, with an outdoor beer garden in good weather. Order the hibiscus orange wit or the corn ale. It is also one of the very few NYC taprooms that explicitly welcomes dogs inside, not just in the yard, which if you have a dog is the entire deciding factor. Outside food is fine — bring or order in. The honest caveat, and it catches people every week: it closes at 8pm Monday to Saturday and 7pm on Sunday, the earliest last call of any brewery in this guide. This is an afternoon brewery, not a night out. Show up at 8:30 and the doors are locked.

The ones with an actual kitchen
Three rooms where you can make a meal of it. See best bar food in NYC.
Grimm Artisanal Ales
Double IPAs, imperial stouts and foeder sours made with fresh fruit — the barrel-aged and fruited sour program is what Grimm is known for and what you should order. It is also one of very few NYC taprooms where the food is a destination in its own right: Lala’s Apizza serves New Haven-style pizza in the building. Heated outdoor patio plus a rooftop level, and one of the breweries the Bronx Times named as still growing through the 2024–25 shakeout. The honest caveat, published by the venue and worth planning around: on weekdays indoor bar seating is deliberately limited from 2pm (noon Fridays) until 5pm while production finishes. Go after 5, or take the roof.
grimmales.com · See our Williamsburg happy hours
Threes Brewing (Gowanus)
A lager house first, which is a clearer identity than most of this page manages, with wine and cocktails poured alongside. The Yard is the reason to come: a year-round outdoor space with its own bar, in the venue’s words lush and green in summer, tented and cosy in winter — one of very few brewery gardens that genuinely works in February. There is a bottle shop with sidewalk seating from noon daily and Ninth Street Espresso pouring 8am–3pm. Threes also runs Greenpoint, Moynihan Train Hall, Huntington and Governors Island — the only brewery taproom on the island, Sat–Sun 11am–6pm only. The honest caveat: the kitchen does not open until 5pm most weekdays.
threesbrewing.com · See our Park Slope happy hours
TALEA Beer Co. (Williamsburg)
Female-founded by LeAnn Darland and Tara Hankinson, and built on fruit-forward sours that are not overly sweet — plus cocktails, coffee and tea, which is why this works for a mixed group in a way most taprooms do not. Five NYC locations: Williamsburg, Cobble Hill, West Village, Bryant Park and Penn District. Detroit-style sourdough pizza from its own kitchen, and a large outdoor patio at Williamsburg. One useful rule: Penn District is the only TALEA that welcomes outside food; the rest serve their own. The honest verdict: it is the most polished, least brewery-feeling room on this list. Great for a group that does not care about beer, less so if you want a brewhouse.

Queens and the Bronx
The latest closes, the cheapest growlers, and the Bronx’s last taproom. See LIC happy hours.
Fifth Hammer Brewing Co.
Open until 1am on Fridays and Saturdays — the latest close of any brewery taproom verified for this guide, which makes it the only one on this page that works as an actual night out rather than an afternoon. Order the Pentatonic Pils, then work the rotating bench of fruited sours; the wider range runs farmhouse ales, DIPAs, pastry stouts, nitros and bourbon barrel-aged porters. Trivia every Tuesday with Happy Bull Pizza serving from 5pm, garage doors open onto the street in good weather, live music most days. The honest caveat: no kitchen of its own — the food is whichever truck or pop-up is outside, so check before you make it dinner.
fifthhammerbrewing.com · See our Long Island City happy hours
Rockaway Brewing Company
Founded in 2012 and still brewing all its beer on site, which after the recent wave of contract-brewing deals is worth stating plainly. It also publishes growler pricing, which nobody else here does: 64oz party growler $25 with glass, $18 refill; 32oz personal growler $12 with glass, $9 refill. That $9 refill is the cheapest way to take good beer home in Queens. Order the original ESB — malty and biscuity — or Vacation Zone, the hazy pale. Weekend tours exist but are informal; ask the bartender. The honest caveat: the LIC room is a bare garage-door taproom with no kitchen. For food, go to the Rockaway Beach location at a weekend.
Evil Twin Brewing NYC
There is no flagship here and that is the entire point: the model is one-off and small-batch releases, heavy on aggressive dry-hopping, so the draft list turns over constantly. Do not go for a specific beer — the thing you read about last month will not be on. Picnic tables outside, a taco truck parked at the taproom, and open to midnight Friday and Saturday, one of the later closes in Queens. There is a $6 select drafts happy hour with windows that differ by day (Mon 4–9pm, Tue–Thu 4–7pm, Fri noon–6pm) — single-sourced, so confirm at the bar. Full detail in our best outdoor bars guide.
The Bronx Brewery
The only verified brewery taproom left in the Bronx after Gun Hill closed its Bronx taproom and production facility in May 2025, and on that basis alone it earns its place. Gigawatt IPA is the order. Resident food partner Empanology serves Puerto Rican food, and the backyard runs rotating art and live music, so this is a proper afternoon rather than a tasting stop. A second location operates at 20 Hudson Yards. The honest caveat, and it matters if authenticity is the point of the trip: since the Captain Lawrence merger the beer is no longer brewed here. You are drinking Bronx Brewery beer in the Bronx, but it is not coming out of the tanks behind the bar.

Staten Island
Two rooms, both walkable from the free ferry. More in best outdoor bars in NYC.
Flagship Brewing Company
Twelve beers or seltzers on tap in a 3,000 square foot room, with outdoor seating in good weather, and — the part that makes this a plan rather than a stop — it is walkable from the St George ferry terminal, so the free Staten Island Ferry ride is half the outing. Pastry stout, golden ale, fruited gose and pilsner are the recurring styles; the cocktails use Fort Hamilton spirits. It also has one of the clearest published family policies in NYC brewing: kids in before 9pm, dogs welcome. The honest caveat: closed Mondays and Tuesdays, no kitchen (you are ordering delivery to the bar), and kids have to be out by nine.
Kills Boro Brewing Company
One of only two brewery openings Brew York flagged as a bright spot in 2025, a year that took four New York breweries — which in this category counts as news. A rotating bench of IPAs, lagers and barrel-aged beers brewed with locally sourced ingredients, and Knead by Kills Boro is a proper sit-down food operation, not a pop-up, which is genuinely unusual for a New York taproom and makes this a dinner rather than a drink. Reachable from the St George ferry terminal along Richmond Terrace. The honest caveat, and do this first: hours are not published anywhere on the site. Call or check the reservation system before you cross the harbour.

NYC breweries: FAQ
Which NYC breweries have a happy hour?
Three publish one. KCBC in Bushwick runs $7 select pours Monday to Thursday 4-7pm, plus $10 flights every Wednesday – the cheapest recurring brewery happy-hour pour verified in the city. Sound + Fury in Downtown Brooklyn runs 3-7pm Monday to Friday covering beer, wine, margaritas and cocktails, though it does not publish the discounted prices. Sixpoint at Brookfield Place does $5 select drafts and a $10 house cocktail all day Saturday, plus a Late Nite Happy Hour Mon-Sat 8-10pm and Sun 6-8pm on select food.
How much is a beer at a NYC brewery taproom?
Almost nobody publishes it. Of the 17 open taprooms verified for this guide, only Eckhart Beer Co. in Bushwick publishes a full price list on its own site: $7 for a 0.3L pour, $9 for a 0.5L, $4 for a Czech-style mliko and $8-$11 for premium pours. That $4 mliko is the cheapest published beer at any NYC brewery taproom. For takeaway, Rockaway Brewing publishes growlers at $25 for a 64oz with glass or $18 to refill, and $12 for a 32oz with glass or $9 to refill.
Do NYC brewery taprooms serve food?
Mostly no, and this is the single most useful thing to know before you go. Other Half Centre Street, Wild East, Transmitter, KCBC, Brooklyn Brewery, Fifth Hammer, Rockaway LIC, Flagship and Eckhart all have no kitchen – they expect you to bring food or order delivery, and several explicitly welcome it. The taprooms with a real kitchen are Threes Brewing Gowanus (from 5pm on weekdays), Grimm (Lala’s Apizza, New Haven-style pizza), TALEA Williamsburg (Detroit-style sourdough pizza), Sound + Fury (scratch kitchen plus Saturday brunch), Kills Boro on Staten Island and The Bronx Brewery (Empanology).
Can you still tour Brooklyn Brewery?
Not as a tour. Brooklyn Brewery has paused its tours ahead of a move to a new building and replaced them with paid 45-minute guided tastings led by a Tasting Room Manager, with a two-ticket minimum. Brewery tours in NYC are close to extinct generally – Rockaway Brewing tells you to ask your bartender about weekend tours rather than running a schedule. Turn up at Brooklyn Brewery expecting a tasting room, not a factory walk-through.
Which NYC breweries closed recently?
2025 was brutal. Torch & Crown closed in November after an eviction notice – it was Manhattan’s only production brewery. Alewife in Sunnyside served last on 28 December, Five Boroughs in Sunset Park closed in mid-December, and 18th Ward in Williamsburg also went. Gun Hill closed its Bronx taproom and production facility in May 2025, leaving The Bronx Brewery as the borough’s only verified taproom. It is not all closures: Eckhart Beer Co. opened in Bushwick in September 2025 and Kills Boro opened a new Staten Island North Shore taproom.
